Title:	Sr. Database Administrator Company:	Blue Cross Blue Shield of AZ
From:	Oct 2007 To: Present
Duties / Responsibilities:
Implemented a HIPAA Data Repository using Oracle 9i and 9iAS which stored
EDI/HIPAA transactions as complete XML documents using XMLType with CLOB storage.
Finely tuned the production version of a Claims Clearinghouse database. Created
backup, restore and recovery and disaster recovery plans for Oracle database
systems. Designed and implemented an Oracle Security Policy that has withstood
several audits. Capacity planning, hardware system recommendations, database
design, developer mentoring, technical consulting to the other groups, etc.
Migrated 3 oracle databases running on AIX 4.3 from 8.0.4 to 8.1.7 and from 8.1.7
to 9.2.0. Provided diagnostic and tuning support for SQLServer databases.
Implement and administer Oracle9iAS for J2EE applications and report deployment.
Recently migrated from AIX/RISC to Linux/Intel based grid infrastructure using
SLES9, PolyServe Matrix Server and Oracle. Also provided Systems Architect
services to the EDI processing group in addition to my regular Sr. Database
Administrator services. Requirements analysis and advanced storage architecture
design that not only met the current project requirements but defined a best
practice and a storage technology road map for the future of BCBS of AZ.
Upgraded the infrastructure to reduce the number of physical database servers
from 12 to 4 and to reduce the number of storage arrays from 4 to 2 while making
large gains in capacity/performance and reducing total cost of ownership and
administration required to support BCBS of AZ’s HIPAA EDI processing system.
Designed and implemented a data archiving solution to allow 7 years of data to be
kept available while reducing the size of the working data store in production
for higher performance and higher probability of maintaining service level
agreements in such that the internal customers didn’t even realize or need to be
concerned with “where” the data was stored (i.e., is the data in the production
data store or in the archive storage?) since they simply use a single
user-interface to access the data by date range. Increased the High Availability
and Disaster Recovery capabilities of the infrastructure, etc.

Title:	Sr. Oracle DBA / Systems Architect	Company:	i-Beacon.com
From:	June 2000 To: May 2001
Duties / Responsibilities:
I took a rough conceptual data model and produced a refined physical model used
to create a health care industry data warehouse on an E6500 running Solaris 8 and
Oracle 8i. I was the technical lead responsible for designing a distributed data
warehouse inflow process including network, data security, data cleansing, ETL
processing, etc. I designed a de-identification engine that allowed transmitting
health care data in a HIPPA compliant fashion while still allowing for person
centric data warehouse records. This involved using SHA-1 and MD-5 one way hash
encryption algorithms, etc. I also helped establish their web software
architecture. We chose the J2EE platform running on BEA Weblogic and designed
web applications using the Model-View-Controller pattern via STRUTS, Stateless
Session Beans and DataAccessor Classes using JDBC to Oracle 8i. I also designed,
implemented and maintained databases used as the backend of the web applications.
I supported web developers by providing them with tuned SQL statements and
stored procedures and by assisting them in their object to relational mapping
efforts. I was also responsible for all traditional DBA maintenance duties.
Completed a migration from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7 (64 bit). The production operating
environments were Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Solaris 8. We used Oracle 8i
(8.1.6) and associated tools (e.g., SQL*Loader, etc.), PowerDesigner, SQL
Navigator, Powermart, Weblogic 5.1, etc.
