EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

2008-current	Head of Engineering for Disruptive Logic, Ltd, a New York based
startup company in the area of personalization and recommendation systems. 
Managed team, wrote backend for recommendation system in Java and Perl using
RESTlet framework.  Wrote "poor man's classifier" to do sentiment analysis using
configurable rules in XML using Perl XML parser and advanced regular expressions.
 Retrieved mashup data using Eventful, Yelp, Amazon APIs.  Debugged issues with
YUI-based Javascript front end.  Designed architecture for producing optimized
recommendations for combinations of friends in a social network.  Wrote PRD and
SOW documents for clients.  Wrote small Facebook application using CPAN Facebook
module, Facebook Connect and jQuery.

1995-current		Owner, Internet Workshop, a search technology company.  Licensee
and developer of Webglimpse and Glimpse local search engines.   Designed and
coded new version of the Webglimpse spider and created a site manager application
in Perl. Wrote modules for output customization, insertion of custom ranking
algorithms, elimination of repetitive text, management of complex combinations of
local files and remote sites to be indexed.  Recently released a version of
Webglimpse that can combine SQL results with full-text search.

			Designed and implemented category-based CMS for use on local websites. 
Launched http://bTucson.com as an adsense supported site for citizen journalism
and local feedback.  Achieved high levels of SEO and receive between 4-6000 human
visitors daily.  Developed AJAX-based method of rapidly browsing deep category
structure with lightweight browser footprint.   Implemented Google API for
sharing ad revenue with content writers.

			 Early on in Internet time, lectured to large audiences on understanding
fundamentals of the Web.  Taught classes to City of Tucson employees and to the
public on the basics of HTML, Perl/PHP, and Javascript. Created websites,
installed LAMP stack software and administered servers for upwards of 100
clients.  

			Led a team to create a customized search and document management solution for
National Law Center for Inter-American Free Trade.    Added 'Search within X
words' and other specific capabilities to match Lexus/Nexus search features. 
Innovated techniques using compressed bit vectors to speed up category browsing
and searching.   

			Researched semantic technology use cases and wrote freelance articles for
Linux Journal, Wall St & Technology and Semantic Report.

		Developed a unique bookmarklet that allows users to make comments anywhere
about any URL.   Designed RDF vocabulary for 'fuzzy' discussions of statements of

		Variety of contract work including Drupal and Wordpress PHP theming and custom
functionality. 

2003-04	As volunteer, wrote the back end for a grassroots site that was featured
on the main page of the 2004 John Edwards campaign.  Collaborated with several
other volunteer programmers around the country to create a site that allowed
secure lateral interactions among 3000+ active supporters.

1996-1998	Software Engineer, CompuRAD.  Developed user interface in C++ for
imaging application.  Interfaced with code from 4-5 other engineers providing
image processing, database interface, printer interface.  Had dumb idea to create
the UI as a DTD, implemented that way instead of using a RAD tool.   Project was
successful anyway.

1992-1994	Support Engineer, Artisoft.  Debugged LANtastic networking assembly
code.  Specialized in tracing bugs in NetBIOS layer.   Worked closely with test
engineering group and provided in-house beta testing for new versions.   Managed
relationship with the vendors for Lantastic for Macintosh and our OEM'd TCP/IP
stack. Supervised small development project of a user interface/installation
program.   

1991-1992	System Administrator and programmer, Developmental Biology Lab,
Caltech.   Managed Sun workstation and wrote scripts to use DNA and protein
sequence matching algorithms.   Also wrote small application 'GeneBook' in
DBASEIII+ on Windows to manage sequence repository.

 1991	Programmer, Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  Wrote C code to do real-time
imaging on OC-300 processing board.
