Office Of Education
Sr. Programmer Analyst
As a Soft-Train Consultant, supporting the LACOE Payroll/HR System Migration
implementation project, on their IBM / Z/OS / MVS System, using COBOL3 / CICS /
DB2 / HTML programming debugging skills. LACOE’s payroll systems have never
missed a payroll cycle and they pay all teacher and staff payrolls (the majority
not covered by LAUSD’s systems).
• Primary duties include: assignment of documented issues occurring on their
newly developed CICS / COBOL3 / DB2 / HTML, HR and Payroll Systems. These issues
typically involve navigational or functional problems, in these mainframe-based
programs and often involve direct involvement with departmental staff from
Student Financial Services Division.
• Assigned tasks concerning the Credential System and related state download
files. Producing a set of CICS/COBOL3/HTML programs accessing DB2 data (new
Archive tables) and sending HTML screens. Created DB2 load programs using the
newly expanded State Credential download file. Gained knowledge and used: SCLM;
WINSQL, a SQL Editor tool; DEBUGGER, a Cobol CICS & Batch Testing Tool.
• Some knowledge-based staff training occurs since most of LACOE’s staff is
Honeywell/Bull Systems based.
• Participate in departmental staff meetings and user project meetings.
EXPERIAN
05/2007 - 09/2007
As an Irvine Technology Corp Contract Programmer/Analyst, supporting the
Experian SBCS System (Small Business Credit Share), on their IBM / Z/OS 1.7 / MVS
System, using Easytrieve+ to write conversion programs. Experian is a leader in
the Credit Bureau sector and maintains DB2 databases of approximately 26
Terabytes.
• Primary duties include: writing Easytrieve programs to convert historical
contributor data to directly batch-update (using Cobol2/DB2) their post-legacy
DB2 Systems. Also, working with Testers, in Quality Assurance, to adhere to
standards and data-translation changes. Identified corrections or improvements
to Systems Requirements Documents. Nominated ‘Lead Programmer’, for meeting all
QA’s required changes, on all Easytrieve conversion programs being tested, and
being written by a staff of 8 Contract Programmers. Researched and recovered,
data sources for conversion. Attending meetings which included staff from
Applications Development, Project management, Department Director, end-user
departmental management, DBAs and QA. These meetings were held for resolving
data conversion issues, scheduling implementation steps and identifying data
sources.
• Performed adhoc programming duties, such as re-testing and promoting a group
of Cobol2 programs, copybooks, procs (including DFSORTs) and JCL, through the
various stages of libraries within Endevor. Meeting with QA to determine any
programming or JCL Standards adherence issues and determining scheduling.
• Attending Production Support meetings. Sometimes being assigned issue
resolution tasks involving batch or CICS / DB2 programs.

System) on Unisys’s 2200 Client Server mainframe, using Cobol and SQL for access
of Unisys’s RDMS (relational database mgmt) and UniAccess Open Client.. Leader is
the largest client-server IV-A system in the country using 5.9 Terrabytes of
DASD. Unisys has been contracting with the County of LA for over 9 years. The
environment is ‘Unisys / Cobol / PowerBuilder / M-F Cobol / RDMS’.
.
• Primary duties include writing and testing Cobol/SQL batch programs and
promoting the program versions thru Unisys’s multiple staged regions. These batch
Cobol programs are exclusively interface and extract programs that feed other
county external systems. The regions are: ‘Production’, ‘Staging’, ‘UA Test’, and
‘Development’, with emphasis on Quality Assurance and peer code review. Meeting
regularly with: LA CO user-staff members, Unisys programmers, and Unisys
management, to report status, identify issues or changes in spec docs or
implementation plans.
• Learning and using PowerBuilder’s Database Management Tools for ad-hoc SQL
queries, in various regions, for data validation (like SPUFI).
• Adapting to the Unisys operating systems and library systems. (Unisys is
using PowerBuilder & M-F Cobol to code and map online maps and programs, in a
separate team).
