Research – Los Angeles	Building incubators: I convert the regular camping coolers
into incubators by making modifying them electronically, electrically and
mechanically. Firstly, I solder various resistors, capacitors and other circuit
elements into the green printed circuit board. Secondly, I glue the faceplate
with keys onto LCD screen and wire them to the circuit board. Thirdly, I make
temperature sensors by micro-soldering the components and treat them with epoxy
resin. Fourthly, I rewire the power supply, peltier and fans so that they are all
connected to the circuit board and I add a master switch. Finally, I drill
appropriate holes into the camping cooler so that all the parts can be assembled
into an appealing product and build the incubator.Developing new cell-phone
controlled incubators: Traditional incubators had a rudimentary computer
interface that allowed sending commands to the incubator through a hyperterminal.
I have now developed software so that the incubators can be controlled by cell
phone and Yahoo! Instant Messenger. You get an instant notification on your phone
and mail if there is any alarm and you can control the incubator from your cell
phone remotely. Furthermore, the incubators can now execute more than a hundred
thousand lines of instruction to simulate Los Angeles weather in March 2007 in an
incubator. The program was developed using Netbeans in Java.Developing Firmware:
The incubators do not usually measure amount of light inside. I have modified
incubators electronically to also detect and log photo-intensity continuously.
Also, I have modified the firmware ‘C’ code to do a better job of temperature
control. We use Microchip’s PIC 877A.Website Development and Maintenance: We use
a shopping cart open source program called Interchange written in Perl to sell
over 700 products online. Interchange uses MySql as the database to store all
data. I built a test server to mirror our production server from scratch. Then, I
migrated from Interchange 5.2 to Interchange 5.5. We then hired someone to create
CSS for a new look. I took over from there and built a new version of our website
using HTML, Javascript, Perl, MySql, Interchange Tag Language to create a dynamic
website. Backup using Mondorescue: I implemented network wide backup for our
company. We have multiple windows, Mac and Linux machines. I consolidated data
from all of them into the central linux file server using RSYNC and CRONTAB. I
then implemented Differential and complete backup using mondorescue. I achieved
complete data recovery using the rescue DVDs that I had created.Automatic FedEx
Shipping: Our company ships a large number of products every day using FedEx. I
wrote a program in JAVA to communicate with the FedEx server, send them our
shipment info, obtain the labels, rate, tracking information or the manifest and
integrate it with FileMakerPro.
