Quality Assurance Engineer, SL Corporation, Corte Madera, California 1989 -
2005
SL Corporation is an objected-oriented graphic software tools provider for
high-end control and business information delivery systems.
From SL Corporation's website: http://www.sl.com/
SL Corporation was established in 1983 as a developer of graphic software tools
for high-end control systems. Since then, SL has evolved to provide an open
business information delivery platform to deliver mission-critical information to
decision makers. Today, SL has issued more than 70,000 licenses in a variety of
industries, including manufacturing, energy/utilities financial services,
telecommunications, defense/aerospace, technology, and transportation. SL's
clients include Tibco, Dow Chemical, GSE, Hewlett-Packard, AspenTech, Honeywell,
and Foxboro.
As a senior member of the Quality Assurance and Release Control team, my duties
were to ensure the highest quality of SL's software. In that capacity, I
performed the following:
* Ported SL software on over 20 different platforms including Linux, HP, AIX,
SUN, and Windows (English, Japanese, and Korean); tested each platform thoroughly
and created detailed test results, including specific steps on how to reproduce
problem behavior
* Single-handedly released one of SL Corporation's major versions with total
success
* Created software deliverables for customers, including new releases and
patches
* Created countless graphical models containing dynamics and specific
variables
(Some of which were featured on SL's website as demos)
* Reported, maintained, and followed through on bugs and bug fixes (utilized
Bug Host, Bugzilla, load testing, and bug-tracking processes of my own)
* Ensured that all results were entered correctly and were complete and
accurate; communicated test results and status information to Development and
Technical Support
* Worked closely with Development and Technical Support to identify and isolate
problems; performed regression testing when necessary
* During development cycle, ran nightly Java builds from home to monitor fixes
that were checked in that day and confirmed there were no unforeseen side
effects; kept Java developers apprised of any errors in the previous night's
build
* Trained employees on how to test the software; monitored and verified their
results; wrote bug reports from their findings
* Wrote and maintained shell scripts to automate certain procedures;
responsible for the extensive and detailed records of all results
* Edited, wrote, proofread, and published end-user documentation (Adobe
FrameMaker, Distiller, PDF, HTML); proofread and edited other company
publications and literature, including website and marketing materials;
wrote/updated procedural documentation as needed
* Maintained detailed software release records in Informix database; created,
labeled, and stored all master software media
* Before closing bug reports, solicited customer feedback to ensure their
satisfaction with the manner in which their needs were addressed
