Professional Experience (Most recent
experience first)
Charles Schwab & Co., San Francisco, CA

Technical Team Lead, Developer
               10/07 - 4/09
Responsible for the maintenance of the Schwab bank/brokerage interface, which is
a subset of the Cashiering systems. This subsystem includes the setup and
execution of the transfer of funds between the bank and broker accounts, bank
account check overdraft protection, bank account minimum balance amount
maintenance, and overdraft protection for the bank account credit card
processing. When I took responsibility for this subsystem there were substantial
daily out-of- balance conditions between the bank and broker, as well as frequent
timeout conditions plaguing the MQ communication process. A rework of the
processes resulted in a system with virtually no out-of-balance conditions, and a
nominal number of timeouts. The system runs under z/OS utilizing DB2 batch and
online programs, NDM, FTP, and IBM’s M-queue. It has a deep COBOL API structure,
exposure to the Schwab Intranet and Internet, and utilizes the ISO 8583 EDI
standard for message exchange.

Technical Team Lead, Developer
            11/06 - 10/07
Responsible for the analysis, design, and coding of the new SIM (Schwab
Investment Manager) to Cashiering interface, which gave the investment managers
the ability to directly manage their client Cashiering activities via the
internet, rather than having to call a Schwab internal representative for entry
and maintenance of the customer’s requests. This included the creation of a
series of new batch extract and reporting processes to warn the investment
managers of any scheduled batch transactions that had potential failure points.

Technical Team Lead, Developer
            6/05 - 11/06
Responsible for the analysis, design, and coding of the Cashiering daily batch
extract process, which provided daily activity feeds to seven downstream systems,
including the Data Warehouse and employee fraud detection systems. Responsible
for the analysis, design, and coding of the Cashiering backup and purge
processing, which archived and deleted dated activity from 27 DB2 Cashiering
tables. Responsible for the analysis, design, and coding of the ESPP (Employee
Stock Purchase Plan) batch system, which processed external batch data feeds for
the creation of Cashiering tax reporting records. Responsible for the shifting
of the Legacy tax event bridge to update the Cashiering DB2 environment directly,
and the removal of the IRA Datacom table reverse bridge, and the deactivation of
the IRA table.

Manager, Technical Team Lead, Developer
       9/04 - 6/05
Responsible for the maintenance, enhancement, and production support of the
Cashiering Legacy systems, which were CICS/Batch/Datacom based. Responsible for
the retirement account regulatory rule modifications and corresponding data
conversion changes for both the DB2 and Legacy Datacom systems.  Participated in
the conversion of the IDMS based Legacy Cashiering functions to DB2 based
processes, and the retirement of the IDMS based functions. Responsible for the
maintenance and enhancement of the Moneylink (ACH) system, a rewrite of the
Cashiering bridge to the General Ledger system, maintenance of the tax reporting
extract process, and maintenance of the CICS/3270/intranet retirement account
update transaction processing.

Analyst, Architect, Technical Team Lead, Developer
   2/01 - 9/04
Participated in the analysis, modeling, and implementation of a new set of DB2
tables for a new suite of Cashiering products that were to be used for the
storage and processing of cash journals, stock journals, checks, wires, and
deposits.  Responsible for the analysis, design, and coding of the pending reason
processing, which determined data entry access capabilities based upon user job
roles, and the creation of the associated DB2 risk rule tables. Responsible for
the analysis, design, and implementation of the recurring request and daily event
processing batch drivers, which were the batch controllers for the daily
processing of the cash and stock journals, and wires transactions. Responsible
for the analysis, design, and coding of the stock journal data entry/update
processes, and the creation of the Cashiering transaction M-queue posting bridge
to the BP&T (Balances, Positions, and Transactions) system.  Participated in the
design of the Wires processing, which interfaced with the SWIFT financial
exchange EDI system via a purchased package.

Analyst, Architect, Technical Team Lead, Developer
   5/00 - 2/01
Responsible for the analysis, design, and implementation of a new suite of DB2
based API’s that provided data retrieval/update capability for a new retirement
account contribution and distribution transaction storage system. Responsible
for the functional decomposition of the HPS based MoneyLink recurring request
scheduler function, and the creation of a new COBOL scheduler process. The
scheduler function was a critical process that determined the next business
execution date for the recurring requests (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly,
semi-annually, and annually).

Technical Team Lead, Developer
                5/99 - 5/00
The NSCC (National Securities Clearing Corp) is the hub through which transfers
of assets between brokerage firms flow. The NSCC did a complete redesign of
their system, and I was responsible for the creation of the corresponding Schwab
processes. The new system was CICS/DB2 based running under MVS, with an
extensive schedule of batch processes tightly coupled to the NSCC exchange
schedule.

Analyst, Architect
                             5/98 - 5/99
The Dividends Distribution System was a system of Legacy CICS/Datacom batch
jobs, and a project was instituted to replace the existing system with a
reengineered version operating in the new DB2 environment. Participated in the
decomposition of the existing system, and the design of the new enhanced DB2
system, however it was determined that the supporting systems in the new DB2
environment had not yet reached the level of maturity required to support the
redesigned Dividends Distribution system.

Wells Fargo Bank, San Francisco, CA
                   6/97 - 5/98
Senior Programmer/Analyst

I was responsible for maintenance of the Motivator system, which was an employee
incentive system that rewarded branch employees for retail account start
activity. Motivator was a CICS/VSAM system that ran in an IBM MVS environment.

Southern Pacific Railway, San Francisco, CA
             1/95 - 6/97
Senior Programmer/Analyst

Supported the Waybills system, which set and tracked freight rates. This was a
development project, and responsibilities included analysis, design, and coding.
I also developed a number of programmer tools that were used to facilitate the
testing processes. This was a COBOL II APS and IMS DB/DC and DB2 based
application running in an IBM MVS environment that interfaced with other rail
carriers using the REN (Rail Exchange Network) EDI system.
