Hewlett Packard for Procter and Gamble, Schwalbach, Germany 16/01/06 - 30/06/07
Technical Support Consultant - contract
This most recent German contract for the large pharmaceutical company involved
the provision of production support to the user help desk (in English and German)
for technical queries and enhancements utilising the standard IBM mainframe
skillset (COBOL/CICS/DB2/JCL), as well as Easytrieve. Also providing support for
the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system, SAP order/shipping/billing system
and COSMOS invoicing suite. General duties include analysis, coding and testing
of local enhancements to mainframe system. Extensive use of ControlM and ControlD
for scheduling, printing and reporting functions.


Keane Canada, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (29/08/05 - 13/01/06)
Senior Analyst/Programmer
Responsibilities in this position related to the account of a large car
manufacturer. The system handles invoicing, ordering and aspects of
manufacture/dealer support and required maintenance, handling of production
problems and on-call service. 
COBOL, DB2 and IMS are the primary skills in use, with IMS training undertaken.


IBM/Alberta Treasury Branches, Calgary, Canada (21/10/02 - 31/03/04)
Analyst/Programmer - contract
On my return to Calgary from Germany I was rehired on a contract basis by IBM.
My first year was spent on a project to migrate COBOL II application code to z/OS
COBOL OS/390 through the whole online banking system including ABMs and card
processing. With much of the analysis already performed, my responsibilities
included:
Alteration of batch COBOL II code (with some DB2) using MVS, TSO, etc.
Alteration of CICS maps
Version control using ENDEVOR
Running of batch banking cycles using JCL and PROCs
Data manipulation using VSAM and flat files
During this time the ATB account within IBM managed to achieve level 3 under the
Capability Maturity Model scheme by extensive use of standardised processes
within our working environment.
Other roles during this contract were:
Testing and maintenance of the MERVA system due to prior knowledge of the
system.
Implementation of updates to the GEAC HR system and running tests. Z/OS was
introduced to the company system at the same time.
Changes to banking system to allow FTP, including changes to Winbatch server
scripts.


Deutsche Bank, Frankfurt, Germany (25/09/00 - 09/08/02)
Analyst/Programmer - contract
During my 2-year contract at Deutsche Bank I was involved in the MERVA Wire
Transfer Project. The MERVA software was supported on an MVS/IMS platform using
COBOL and Assembler. I was responsible for a number of aspects of the project
including:
Adapting and writing programs to enable the Bank to participate in the CLS
banking system through the SWIFT network
Writing Assembler routing modules as part of the MERVA backup system.
Engaged in project planning for the Bank to use Logica’s HOTSCAN  software for
message filtering and security with regard to money laundering, etc
Creation of new programs for MQ transfer procedures
Various enhancements to report programs, dataflow control programs and other
minor batch and online programs. The following tools and software were used:
	COBOL, Assembler macros, DB2, IMS, MQ Series, MVS, TSO, JCL, SPUFI,
	SQL, Lotus Notes, KVS version control system, VSAM, CICS and IBM 	utilities.

My German language skills also improved significantly through day-to-day
interaction.

Canadian Pacific Railway, Calgary, Canada (25/05/99 - 09/12/99)
Analyst/Programmer - contract
At CPR I was involved in their project to integrate a purchased shipment
tracking system into their existing IS environment. My duties included producing
specifications, analysis, coding, testing and documentation of converted online
programs. This was achieved with the following tools and software:
COBOL and Assembler languages, Smartest, Endevor, DB2, SQL, CICS, JCL, SPUFI,
QMF, TSO and MVS. 
Lotus Notes was used for company communication and documentation.

Alberta Treasury Branches/IBM, Calgary, Canada (05/98 - 20/05/99)
Analyst/Programmer - contract
I was taken on at ATB to provide maintenance and enhancements to the Synergy
mainframe banking system. I was then offered the opportunity to take over the
Wire Transfer project, utilising the MERVA software. This product is composed
primarily of Assembler macros. My responsibilities included user liaison and
requirements management, interaction with operations and other technical
personnel and coordinating and working with business analysts on problem
resolution. The absence of any other experienced project resource left me with
the role of project leader responsible for supervising programming staff, project
coordination, implementation to production and quality control. This was carried
out with the help of the following tools and software:
COBOL, JCL, MVS, TSO, VSAM, CICS, INFOMAN and Assembler macros.
ATB outsourced its IT department to IBM in November 1998.
My most rewarding achievement with this company was the successful
implementation of the Year 2000 MERVA upgrade with just 10 weeks on the project.

ISM-BC, Calgary, Canada (02/98 - 05/98)
Snr Analyst/Programmer - permanent
This was my first employment in Canada. As a senior analyst/programmer I was
responsible for coding, testing and documentation on the Year 2000 project of a
client‘s mainframe telecommunications billing system. Tools used include:
Batch COBOL, MVS, JCL, TSO,  VSAM, MAX, Smartest and Endevor

During this contract at TSB I was part of the Banking Sales department coding
enhancements to their mainframe system to ensure Year 2000 compliance. This was
effected with the following tools:
COBOL (batch and CICS), JCL, MVS, TSO, Fileaid, Abendaid and other IBM
utilities.

Batch Mantis, Selcopy, JCL, PANAPT and Cincom’s Comprehensive Retrieval.

Analyst/Programmer - contract
Development and support of the Uniplan manufacturing package on a UNIX-based
IBM390 for this small aircraft outfitter. This was using Microfocus COBOL, UNIX
and the VI editor.

General Accident Insurance Co., Perth, Scotland (01/95 - 04/95)
Analyst/Programmer - contract
In the large IT department of this international insurance company I was
involved in the development of a risk detail capture program using COBOL, CICS,
MVS, Smartest and the Paxus POLISY package.

Trainee programmer/Programmer  - permanent (04/90 - 07/93)
Analyst/Programmer - contract (04/94 - 12/94)
I joined this software house as a trainee programmer and, after completing 6
weeks training, began coding programs from specifications and receiving extensive
on the job training. My responsibilities evolved to include analysis, coding and
testing of programs to capture and process risk details, production of a claims
documentation system and conversion of data onto a Supra database. 
My employment was interrupted by redundancy in 1993 and the time was used to
travel abroad. 
When I returned to the company as a contractor in 1994 I was placed in a support
role for the SLIP information capture system. These projects utilised the
following tools and software:
MANTIS, COBOL, SUPRA relational database, JCL, MVS, TSO, Selcopy, MSP
datamanager and a variety of IBM utilities.


Between 1984 and 1990 I was employed in the insurance industry for five and a
half years in roles varying from insurance accounts clerk to assistant
accountant.





EDUCATION

Secondary education was conducted at King Edmund School in Rochford, Essex,
England and I achieved 8 ‘O’ levels before leaving in 1982. Selected as Head Girl
for my final year.
After attending South East Essex VI Form college in Thundersley, Essex, I left
there in 1984 with 3 ‘A’ levels in Maths, French and Economics.

Having participated in numerous professional courses and seminars, my most
recent was in HTML and web development. Although not strictly part of my job
experience I found it extremely useful and have begun to develop several personal
websites.


INTERESTS

Travel - Have enjoyed touring Europe and Asia, working abroad and backpacking
around the States and Canada
Reading - I’m a big fan of Terry Pratchett and the Dalai Lama 
Languages - Interested in the origins of language and improving communication.
