Professional Experience
TST Overland Express ~ Mississauga, Ontario 08/2006-Present
A LTL transportation company
Handled all EDI duties for the company including creating applications, mapping
the transactions, setting up trading partners, contacting VANs, troubleshooting,
reporting, and coding the programs needed to integrate the transactions into our
system applications.
Transaction sets included status updates (214s), invoicing (210s), load tenders
(204s), and bills of lading (211s), remittance advice (820s).
Expanded the EDI capabilities of the company from 10 trading partners to over
50 trading partners.
Used FTP to transfer files whenever possible to cut down on communication and
VAN costs.
Rockwell Automation Canada ~ Cambridge, Ontario 03/2004-07/2006
A world leader in manufactured factory automation technologies and engineered
products
Handled all EDI administrative duties for the Canadian side of the business
using Harbinger software. EDI drove about 80% of the order entry/invoicing
function of the company. All major distributors were set up as trading partners
(15+).
Transaction sets included P.O. acknowledgments (855s), advance ship notices
(856s), and invoicing (810s).
Designed and implemented the code and system infrastructure to support these
new transactions.
Backup administrator of ALDON change management software.
Member of the design and installation team responsible for the restructuring of
night run procedures in order to eliminate any user down time. This involved an
intricate study of jobs that required exclusive rights to data files, thus
restricting user access. The successful strategy involved using DDM to
coordinate synchronized updates to a secondary AS/400. All down time was
eliminated.
Designed and implemented a warranty information tracking system that allowed
the company to trace all items with warranties, eliminating the huge losses
associated with honouring transferred warranties, and black market sales of our
product.
Daffron Canada ~ Hamilton, Ontario 12/2002-02/2004
An innovative leader in deregulated billing software for large utility
companies.
Helped eliminate a two year backlog in customer change requests.
Eliminate bugs in packaged code.
Designed and created hydro rebate cheque files as per the data requirements by
each of the major banking institutions in Ontario.
Hamilton Hydro Electric Company ~ Hamilton, Ontario 03/2000-08/2002
A distributor of Hamilton's water and hydro-electric power.
Aided in the implementation of a new software package (Daffron software) to
handle deregulated billing requirements.
Analyzed and mapped old system data flow into new software modules, and
provided links into other dependent system modules such as A/R and A/P.
Automated fax and e-mail capabilities into the billing system.
Teamed with the inventory department to design and code a new MRP system.
Provided user support and training procedures as needed.
Rockwell Automation Canada ~ Cambridge, Ontario 05/1994-02/2000
A world leader in manufactured factory automation technologies and engineered
products
Created an automated front end to the order entry system to handle EDI 850
(Incoming orders) transactions.
Expanded the EDI environment by adding 832 (Pricing agreements), 852 (Inventory
stock), 855 (P.O. Acknowledgments), and 810 (Invoicing) transaction processing.
This allowed us to team with selected distributors to develop VMI (vendor managed
inventory) strategies which were implemented successfully.
Designed an automated price change notification system, that notified all EDI
partners of any daily price changes. This was expanded to provide distributors
with entire price book updates, or selected subsets of product lines as needed.
Teamed with the inventory planners and our distributors/customers to produce an
expedite system that greatly enhanced their ability to rush needed components to
customer job sites.
Worked with regional and international offices in consolidating sales,
commissions, and financial information into a database that could be queried and
analyzed by Head Office. Much of the data was sent via spreadsheet, so RUMBA
file transfer was used to transfer the data and then it was mapped into the
database structure.
Westburne Inc ~ Burlington, Ontario 09/1992-04/1994
One of North America's largest distributor of plumbing and electrical products.
Team leader for all A/P, and A/R related modifications and enhancements.
Entirely redesigned the old month-end procedures. The existing system required
over 40 straight hours of restricted run time and required user interaction
throughout. After meticulous analysis, I was able to modify the job to run in a
multi-batch processing environment, with no intervention, and taking only 10
hours to complete. Furthermore, the amount of time in a restricted state was
negligible. The new month end was rolled out to all fifteen separate AS/400s
across Canada and the U.S. Under my supervision. Tremendous successes occurred
at all sites.
Assisted with call center duties, provided user support, and trained users on
new procedures relating to A/R and A/P
Helped in the selection and implementation of ALDON change management
software.
Atlas Van Lines Canada Ltd. ~ Oakville, Ontario 11/1990-09/1992
A transportation company specializing in household moves, corporate or
international relocations, and the shipping of specialized goods.
Teamed with another senior programmer and the order entry/finance department to
create and develop a new order entry system. Much consideration was given to
making the system extremely user friendly, complete with pop-up help windows on
all input fields, sub-file selection options, and detailed error message
handling. The result was considered a huge success, and was rolled out to all
remote sites across Canada.
Designed a fuel tracking system that paid the driver rebates based on a formula
that involved the quantity of fuel used versus kilometers driven. This system
also tracked driver time logs so that any government and/or company infractions
could be spotted easily by the logistics manager.
Modifications and enhancements to the claims system helped managers better
analyze statistics and claims data.
Hamilton Hydro Electric Company ~ Hamilton, Ontario 04/1989-10/1990
A distributor of Hamilton's water and hydro-electric power.
Worked on enhancements to the A/P, A/R and General Ledger modules.

use this programming functionality properly and productively.
Alchem Inc. ~ Burlington, Ontario 01/1988-03/1989
A large chemical manufacturing company owned and operated by CIL.
Hired to aide in the implementation of the AS/400 operating system from the
existing Hewlett Packard 3000 platform.
Steering Committee member whose purpose was to choose a software package
appropriate for the company.
BPCS was the chosen solution. Analyzed specific company requirements that were
not part of the base package, and made the necessary programming changes. Saved
the company thousands of dollars in projected contract programmer costs by being
extremely productive in this endeavor.
Considered for I.T. Manager position when current manager moved on to another
job.
Maris Transport ~ Burlington, Ontario 01/1987-12/1988
Transportation company that specialized in transporting automobiles from factory
to dealerships.
Redesigned and streamlined a dispatch system that was purchased from a
non-competitive transportation company. Greatly increased program response time
and efficiency by integrating up to date programming concepts and technologies.
Laidlaw Transport ~ Hamilton, Ontario 07/1985-12/1986
Truckload transportation company that specializes in transporting any and all
commodities.
Handled user requests for modifications and enhancements in all system
modules.
Created an AS/400 “Mapquest” type application that allowed users to enter
origin/destination data, and it would return the best route/shortest
route/quickest route back to the user's screen. This was accomplished by feeding
a purchased PC Map Software package the request through data file transfer, and
then parsing the returned data into a format acceptable to the AS/400
application.
