RELEVANT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Senior Software Engineer Spectra Logic Corporation 8/00 to Present
Developed and maintained the Library Controller (LC) application on enterprise
class tape libraries. The LC app uses a client-server architecture, is
multi-threaded and is written primarily in C++/MFC.
Implemented numerous product enhancements including SNMP extension agents,
drive performance and power consumption monitors, auto support ticket generation
and delivery using SMTP, automatic drive cleaning functionality and media
lifecycle management.
Migrated 8mm tape based Gator Control Panel (GCP) architecture to the half
inch tape based Large Cartridge Format (LCF) environment. This included
implementing monitor and control functions for fan and power supply control
modules.
Brought up Windows CE operating system on custom X86 hardware. Task included
driver work for ATA, video, touch screen, sound, and temperature sensor.
Architected and implemented SNMP agent that supported both proprietary and
SNIA (Storage Networking Industry Association) industry standard MIBs for tape
libraries.
Project management of above projects including schedule development,
maintenance and reporting.
Senior Software Engineer NETdelivery Corporation 4/00 to 8/00
Responsible for development and maintenance of Java applications providing
secure document delivery and EBPP (electronic bill presentment and payment).
Components written include Java Servlets, Java Server Pages (JSPs), JDBC and
SQL Server stored procedures.
Senior Software Engineer Sterling Software (acquired Spectra Logic) 4/99 to
3/00
Responsible for development and maintenance of Lifeguard, a C application that
provides remote backup for various Windows platforms. Data is backed up to a
distributed server that can be scaled to support 60K 100K remote users.
Selected to assume lead development responsibility for Lifeguard application
after original Phoenix development team left the company. Had only two weeks to
learn product technology before original developers departed and I assumed full
product development responsibility.
Recognized Lifeguard project management responsibilities were not being
performed; assumed these responsibilities and kept project on track.
Identified architectural and implementation errors in server components;
implemented code fixes to stabilize server and improve performance.
Presented with Above and Beyond award for my efforts to bring project back
on track.
Software Engineer Spectra Logic Corporation 2/95 to 4/99
Responsible for development and maintenance of various components of
Alexandria, a C/C++ application that provides tape backup for UNIX and NT
workstations and servers.
Developed SCSI passthru driver for Windows NT platform. Researched Microsoft
documentation and relevant reference materials to gain knowledge necessary to
implement driver.
Developed API that allowed Windows NT based enterprise management application
to retrieve system information from Alexandria servers on various UNIX
platforms.
Developed product extension that allowed Alexandria to back up the registry on
Windows NT systems.
Described as the best documentor in development by manager of documentation
for my ability to convey difficult technical concepts in a clear, concise
manner.
Developed and maintained COBRA, a C application that provides file system and
Oracle database backup on numerous UNIX platforms.
Implemented test suites using UNIX shell scripts and C programs to verify
behavior and performance of backup applications.
Developed and presented COBRA training to customer support staff.
Manager Member of Technical Staff, U S West Communications 6/91 to 8/94
