Started this business from scratch, including acquiring funds, selecting a
franchise, setting up the office and IT environment, hiring a Customer Service
Representative, and recruiting and training independent contractors to provide
handyman services to customers. Manage day-to-day operations, budget,
advertising and finances. Now that the business processes are in place and
working, I am able to return to Information Technology if the right opportunity
is available.
OPENWAVE SYSTEMS, Broomfield, Colorado 2006-May, 2009
Senior Consultant and Team Lead
Provided on-site support for locations (both 911 and commercial) and voicemail
products, including installation and troubleshooting, testing, upgrades and
technical analysis as needed in a Solaris 10 environment.
• Team lead for on-site team supporting Openwave’s largest Locations customer.
Travelled frequently to customer site during and after deployment of nationwide
Commercial Locations Based Services product.
• Isolated critical software and configuration issues with a customer’s
business-critical billing processes and improved the reliability of the software.
Involved use of Solaris, network and application debugging tools and techniques.

• Solved a major crisis that would have resulted in the failure of a customer’s
voicemail system. Required extensive LDAP directory changes within a short
timeframe. Created a script to make the changes, while monitoring directory
cache servers to insure replication servers kept up with the changes.

• Administered 14 UNIX servers and two enterprise storage devices, responding to
user, application and repair needs. Created proactive administration and
monitoring tools, primarily based on scripts running on a separate Linux server.
This resulted in exceptional system availability and enhanced reporting.
• Designed and developed programs to monitor an EMC Symmetrix storage device,
allowing the savings of $185,000 in maintenance costs.
• Demonstrated success at root cause analysis, quickly isolating problems and
minimizing costs. Isolated one issue disrupting business-critical data feeds to
duplicate hardware IDs on two network cards. .
• Key driver of cross-team training, allowing other team members to provide
coverage of simple UNIX problems and requests, resulting in significant
improvement of response time to customer’s requests.
Senior Systems Programmer/Architect (1997-2003)
Designed solutions for applications, specifying servers, software and consulting
needs. Participated directly with vendors and consultants during implementation
to deliver reliable solutions to meet business needs.
• Avoided many technical problems by acting as the UNIX subject matter expert in
the design and implementation of the Janus.com website, keeping the business
decisions technically feasible.
• Analyzed severe performance problems with a business-critical process
involving large amounts of data, which proved the problems were due to
limitations of the server's storage device. My analysis justified accelerating
the purchase of three enterprise storage devices, reducing the process from six
days to two.
• Defined the data movement techniques used to reliably and securely move files
between servers at Janus and to and from vendors, allowing automation of these
processes and the related work flow processes.
