Loews Hotels
For Loews Hotels International Mr Newcomb was tasked with identifying all SQL
Server systems and implementing a standard set of maintenance and security
standards. Additionally Mr. Newcomb was responsible for upgrading all SQL Server
instances to the current Service Packs. Mr Newcomb has planned, tested and
executed all SQL Server 2000 to 2005 conversions of all candidate SQL 2000
environments. Loews continues to engage and plan conversions with Mr Newcomb.
Technologies Used: SQL Server 2000 & 2005
Orlando Regional Health System
Mr Newcomb was contracted by ORHS to support the development of a 24/7
environment to support all main hospital operations. Using C# Mr Newcomb
developed an automated system that would populate the failover system and provide
a switch to the failover environment in case their Clustered Production
environment was to fail. Additionally Mr Newcomb was tasked with the Performance
review and enhancement of ORHS Custom Reporting Services. The custom reports were
analyzed using SQL Profiler to find missing joins, incorrect use of indexes and
poorly written Stored Procedures. All performance improvements were tested,
measured and implemented by Mr Newcomb. Technologies Used: SQL Server 2000 &
2005, C#.Net.. Golden Gate
LSQ Systems Inc.
This client was experiencing poor performance on their production server that
was running transactional replication. Mr Newcomb recommended and implemented the
solution of separating their Distribution database on a separate server and
separating all reporting functions to a separate environment as well. While
helping LSQ Systems, Mr Newcomb also implemented changes that would distribute
their MDF and LDF files across several Drive Controllers easing the IO
bottlenecks that were being experienced system wide. Additionally Mr Newcomb was
responsible for planning, testing and executing LSQ’s SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 3Tera
Byte Databases. The conversion included all Tables, Jobs, Stored Procedures and
Replication. Technologies Used: SQL Server 2005 SSRS, SSIS, SSAS
Integrasys
For a Major Financial Software Company Mr. Newcomb was engaged to perform
performance analysis on several databases that were experiencing poor performance
in queries and reports. Mr. Newcomb Performed SQL Profile traces and identified
several areas where indexing and data archive were necessary. Additionally Mr.
Newcomb created the Standard, Naming and coding conventions for all database
objects. Mr Newcomb also developed the Database Upgrade, Install and Conversion
packages using C# and XML to allow Integrasys to distribute packaged (exe)
database changes to their Credit Union Customers. Technologies Used: SQL Server
2000, 2005, C#.Net, Red Gate, Embarcadero, Coefficient
UD Testing
For a Major Drug Testing firm Mr., Newcomb was responsible for the creation off
all stored procedures that were used for Data validation sample FPIA and GCMS
testing. Additionally Mr. Newcomb worked with the .Net development staff to
ensure that all Application and Web code utilized SQL Server correctly. Upon
completion of the Database design, and programming Mr. Newcomb and Enterprise
Experts have been engaged to perform 24/7 Database Monitoring and ongoing
Performance Tuning.
Technologies Used: SQL Server 2000, Power Builder
Starwood Resorts
Mr. Newcomb has also been engaged by a major Timeshare corporation to perform 30
database moves from a single server environment to a multi server Clustered
environment. The interesting part of the project was that the client was not
keeping the same server name for the new server. Mr. Newcomb was responsible for
converting all DTS scripts as well as all TSQL Stored Procedure that had hard
coded machine references. This project was completed on time and under budget.
Technologies Used: SQL Server 2000, Embarcadero
03/01/2003 – 09/01/2003 Walt Disney World Information Technology
Celebration, Florida
Senior Database Consultant / Data Warehouse Specialist
While on contract with Walt Disney World Mr. Newcomb has had the opportunity to
participate in 3 challenging Projects.
The Corporate Data Encryption project was the result of the California Law that
requires corporations to encrypt sensitive personal data that are housed in
Corporate SQL Server. Mr. Newcomb was responsible for the identifying standards
and products used to protect corporate relational databases. Impact on existing
systems, performance and manageability were meticulously analyzed and
recommendations were documented and implemented corporate wide. Peregrine was
used to locate and identify systems that were not on the implementation list and
corrections were made upon identification.
Mr. Newcomb was again called on to lead the Key Indicators System data analysis,
data modeling, design and implementation. This projects goals where to tie all
Disney Network Monitoring and Intrusion detection systems together into a single
