Work History
Datamax Orlando, FL (Contract) 6/2008 11/2008
Tools used: VB.NET 2008, SQL Server 2005.
Project: Application needed several new forms as well as updates to some
existing forms. Data is pulled from and updated back to multiple SQL Server
databases.
Designed and created a basic security for forms access control. Tied into
Windows login. Required addition of new tables in the database.
Helped to refine the initial database layout as business changes showed a need
for additional data.
Upgraded some existing forms, and designed, built and tested new forms for
processing the data. All forms used a mixture of controls including the
DataGridView. Data was pulled from multiple tables for each form.
Georgia Pacific Savannah, GA (Telecommute part-time Contract) 9/2008
10/2008
Tools used: VB.NET 2005, SQL Server 2000.
Project: Existing application needed to be modified from a single department
usage, to multiple department usage. Forms were changed to be data driven and to
adjust their display based on selected current department. Used stored procedures
for all database access and update.
Upgraded the code to use the new stored procedures. Upgraded the main form so
the data grid adjusted the displayed columns for each department. Upgraded the
main form so all controls adjusted correctly when the form was resized. Upgraded
the data entry form so it displays data or allows data entry for the items for
the active department. Added a form to allow selection of a department from the
list the user can be associated with. Adjustments to stored procedures.
Trust Title Maitland, FL (Contract) 5/2008 6/2008
Tools used: VB.NET 2005, SQL Server 2000.
Project: Application needed several upgrades that included new stored
procedures, updating existing stored procedures, updates to existing tables and
changes/additions to the VB.NET code.
The database was also being migrated to a new server. I helped to plan the
move, and document each step needed to make it happen.
The SYGMA Network (a division of SYSCO trucking) Colorado (Telecommute
Contract) 5/2008 6/2008
Tools used: Wise Installer.
Project: Install of an MS Access application would not install and run under
Windows Vista.
Took the install package apart, and after some research put it back together
with the required changes for installing and running under Windows Vista.
CHB Consulting, Inc. Rockledge, FL (Contract) 2/2008 5/2008
Tools used: Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic .NET 2005 and 2008, Crystal Reports 11,
MS Word, Wise for Windows Installer, HTML Help with HelpBreeze HTML Help Edition
3, MS Front Page, SourceSafe, MS Access.
Upgraded all software packages to use Crystal Reports 11.
Fixed reported bugs in software packages. Released a new version of two of the
packages.
Continue the work of upgrading the applications from Visual Basic 6 to Visual
Basic .NET.
Starlims/USEC Portsmouth, OH/Paducah KY (Telecommute Contract) 12/2007
2/2008
Tools used: Crystal Reports 11, SQL Server 2005, SourceSafe.
Project: Produce new reports for the client. I worked with the customers and
other developers on the project to determine the data and groupings needed for
each report. Then designed, tested and implimented them.
NOTE: Work was done remotely from my home office in Florida.
Attorneys Title Insurance Fund, Inc. Orlando, FL (Contract) 4/2007 11/2007
Tools used: Visual Basic 6, MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel, SourceSafe, Adobe
Acrobat 8, Dosadi EZTwain Pro 3, Wise for Windows Installer, MS Virtual PC,
VMWare Workstation.
Project: Upgrade an existing Visual Basic application so it would: 1) link
with Adobe Acrobat 8, rather than Adobe Acrobat 5, 2) have the MS Access database
upgraded, 3) add external TWAIN scanning, and 4) make the application Vista
compatible.
Extensive research and communication with Adobe tech support was required as
there were many interface changes between Acrobat 5 and 8. Some required
modification of the calls, but most required additional design and coding to work
with the new Acrobat interface.
The Acrobat interface conversion had a very tight timeline of 4 weeks for the
prototype. The schedule was met.
Using Dosadi EZTwain drivers, the product was upgraded so it would now talk
directly to any TWAIN scanner directly instead of having to use what was built
into Acrobat.
The MS Access database required field upgrades and the data had to be
translated as the database was moved from one location to another for Vista
compatibility. The database was rebuilt using code. Using code and SQL, the data
was copied from the existing database to the new one, and all document paths were
updated as the data was moved.
Added ability to detect and record the prior version information about the
product and Acrobat before the new versions are installed. This information is
displayed in the Help About section. The prior version information was located in
the Uninstall section of the registry.
Upgraded the application so it is Windows Vista compatible. This required all
non-compliant registry entries be moved to an external configuration file, and
that the database and documents be relocated to an area on the local hard drive
that Vista allows file update in.
Upgraded and tweaked the existing Wise for Windows install so it worked with
both the standalone and network installs, and now also under Vista. Also created
Wise for Windows install to upgrade internal customers who received the initial
beta release and now needed to upgraded to the final release. Much of the testing
was done using Virtual computers.

The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. Washington, DC (Telecommute Full
Time) 1997-2004
Tools Used: Visual Basic 4-6, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, StarTeam
Primary project was an Estate Tax & Gift Planner application in which I worked
on design, development and maintenance
Yearly enhancements were released with new features. Patches were released as
law changes were enacted at the State or Federal level. I was responsible for
coordinating the building and releasing of the patches to an FTP site for
distribution.
Enhanced project with Estate Plan Flowcharts and a PowerPoint slideshow built
at run-time with the clients data. The slideshow is a multi-slide view of the
Estate Plan being proposed to the client.
I did the initial review about switching to VB.NET, however it was decided not
to switch at that time.
Maintained the network used for development team and managed the SourceSafe CM
server.
Boeing Kennedy Space Center, FL 1990-1997
Part of team responsible for automation of the paperwork for processing
payloads for the NASA Shuttle.
Worked closely with the users of the existing manual process as part of the
design team.
Led a project team on a section of the main project. The section was brought
in on time and within budget.
Designed, built, tested and implemented an MS Access application that allowed
employees to enter their skills into a database used when bidding new projects to
NASA. Allowed the company to have better skills available information when
presenting bids. Implementation was accomplished by having the application at
location where there were employees. A central MS Access application pulled all
data each night from the various locations and merged it together.
Other experience prior to 1990:
Designed, built and tested interfaces between paper machines and business
computers. These allowed operators to monitor paper machines and adjust them in a
timely fashion. Saved cost of paper not being produced to specs.
Designed, built and tested a front end into a Marketing SQL Server computer.
This allowed the users to start a large query and then regain control of the
their local terminal or PC. Before this project, workers sat idle during long
runs that could take several hours.
Worked on a team that built custom order processing software for paper mills.
Worked directly with client at paper mill maintaining and upgrading the system
they had purchased. Worked with users in the design of upgrades they needed, then
built and tested them.
Led project team in design and coding and implementation of a project that
used on IBM PC and a custom built controller for managing oil field pumps.
