Professional Experience:
NIELSEN MEDIA RESEARCH INC. Tampa, FL (1999 Present)
Software Developer Integrated Sample Management (2007-2009)
Involved in the design and development of the Integrated Sample Management
application. ISM is a .NET Windows application which is used by the Nielsen field
force to capture client demographic and device information. The current Sample
Management application is MSM (Metered Sample Management), which is a legacy
PowerBuilder application utilizing UNIX and Sybase on the back-end. ISM is an
in-process migration of MSM to current leading-edge .NET technologies.
Developed the ISM application using the Agile methodology.
Implemented the application using the .NET 3.5 Framework and C#.
Used the CAB Framework (Composite Application Block), to provide the highest
level of modularity. Initially involved in bringing the rest of the team up to
speed with the CAB framework.
Utilized Web services and WCF services in the middle-tier to communicate with
a SQL Server database. Optimized the services to serve a large number of
concurrent users.
Provided communication with other systems using TIBCO messaging. My job
involved developing new processes as well as maintaining existing ones.
Utilized Windows Workflow Foundation to manage workflow processing for the ISM
application.
Designed and developed a solution for syncing online and offline data for the
field force. This was implemented using Microsoft Sync Services. Since we were
early adapters of this technology, I worked with the Microsoft Sync Services team
to develop the initial solution. I worked with Microsoft Lab Services to stress
test the solution and make recommended changes.
Provided technical support for production issues in ISM.
Worked with TFS and CVS source-control tools.
Worked extensively with SQL Server, creating stored procedures and triggers.
Enterprise Architect (March 2007- September 2007)
Developed a POC for the Spotfire analytics tool using the EDS (Elemental Data
Store).
Involved with the ISM team in an architectural capacity, making
recommendations on the use of .NET technology.
ETL Developer Integration Competency Center (2005-2007)
Designed and developed ETL solutions using Informatica for the ICC.
Principal developer for ETL processes to facilitate data transfer between
various systems. Designed and developed the Monitored Station Extract and the NCE
Sid Extract. These extracts were run against Sybase IQ datawarehouses. Data was
extracted from the warehouses, transformed and then loaded into the VSAM.
Provided Informatica training to other departments and brought them up to
speed with the ETL process using Informatica.
Developed several POCs to demonstrate the use of Informatica as a replacement
strategy for the companys legacy processes which used a mix of Java and UNIX to
transport data between legacy systems.
Analyzed business, functional, and technical requirements to make sure project
met expectations.
Software Developer Integration Competency Center (2003-2005)
Principal developer in the development of various POCs to demonstrate the
effectiveness of newer Technologies, which included:
- Porting the OTA (Over the Air) application from PowerBuilder to a web
application using Java and J2EE technologies. Used EJBs, Struts, JSP, Javascript
on a BEA WebLogic server.
- Developing a POC using J2EE technologies. My job was to develop a J2EE
application using the JBOSS Server, which demonstrated all the aspects of J2EE
such as JSP, EJBs, Security, Mail etc. and use the Hibernate framework.
- Developing a POC in .NET, the purpose of which was to demonstrate to upper
management .NET (C# \ SQL Server) as an alternative solution to PowerBuilder for
the MSM field management software. This set the path for migrating our existing
legacy applications to .NET.
- Developing a Java application for migrating data over from Lotus Notes to
ClearQuest. Made extensive use of the Lotus Notes API. Worked with the IBM team
on implementing the solution.
- Initial development of a Java application to provide a user interface for
automating DBA scheduling tasks. Was developed using the Sun Application Server
and NetBeans IDE.
Developed reporting solutions using Microsoft Reporting Services. Provided
documentation and training to the end users.
Software Developer MTT (Metered Template Tool), OTA (Over the Air)
applications (2002-2003)
Developed, enhanced and maintained the MTT and OTA applications using
PowerBuilder for the front-end.
Developed and maintained stored procedures and triggers in Sybase.
Provided production support to the end-users.
Software Developer MSM (Metered Sample Management) application (1999-2002)
Worked with the users to gather requirements for enhancing the MSM
application.
Designed and developed new user interfaces for the MSM application using
PowerBuilder and Sybase.
Developed new stored procedures in Sybase as well as modified existing ones.
Developed UNIX scripts for data manipulation and transfer.
Involved in fixing bugs and providing support to the field users.
Wrote custom scripts to facilitate the movement of zip codes across field
offices.
KFORCE (1998-2002)
Metracomp:
Worked as a PowerBuilder consultant enhancing and fixing applications catering
to Workers Compensation. Development work was mainly in PowerBuilder and Sybase.
Optimized the existing application to improve performance, as well as making
new enhancements.
Developed reports, stored procedures and triggers.
Nielsen Media Research Inc.:
Worked as a consultant developing and maintaining software for use by the
field force.
Worked on the Y2K project to identify and fix potential Y2K issues.
Made modifications and enhancements to the existing Powerbuilder application
(MSM).
Developed stored procedures and triggers in Sybase. Optimized existing stored
procedures.
Developed UNIX scripts to transfer data with downstream systems.
POWERCERV (1996-1998)
Health Plan Services:
Worked as a consultant performing development work in PowerBuilder for billing
applications.
Developed custom scripts to facilitate data transfer with external clients.
Scripts were written using C and UNIX.
Made enhancements to existing Powerbuilder applications.
PowerCerv:
Worked on internal custom applications using PowerBuilder and PowerTool.
Provided technical support on internal custom applications.
