Here's my story:
I spent 20 years in the US Navy as an electronics technician, shop supervisor,
AV/ARM Division Chief, Maintenance Master Chief, and Command Master Chief. I
also had several special assignments including a year in Iran as a member of a
Technical Assistance Field Team. I authored several correspondence courses
including three volumes of the basic electronics course (NEETS) and was the
coordinator for the Basic Military Requirements course for which I authored six
chapters. I was a principle creator of the Petty Officer Indoctrination course.
I retired from the Navy in 1985 and returned to school at the University of
Victoria in Victoria, BC, Canada.
I worked on concurrent degrees at UVIC in Philosophy/Computer Science/Math and
the Coop Program. I graduated in 1990 with a first class honours degree in
Philosophy and immediately went to work as a programmer.
That job was at the same place that I had spent my work terms, Coast Forest
Management, Ltd. developing handheld computer applications used in the forestry
industry written in Turbo Pascal.
In September, 1992, I returned to the University of Victoria as a Teaching
Assistant in the philosophy department and Lab Instructor and Consultant for the
computer science department. I worked there until August 1998.
I then took a job starting as a programmer/analyst with Forest Health Services
writing software using the Delphi language, Oracle, and PL-SQL. I left
development and took a position as the coordinator for a project on obtaining new
software for the hospitals we owned and the software necessary to implement an
enterprise system. When the decisions were made, I became the project manager
for implementation of the enterprise software purchased from Lawson Software,
Inc.
In August 2000 I took a contract position as a software developer at ELANCO
through Direct Technical Services. This position was support and development for
software that collected and provided information on products and customers for
field personnel. It was developed using Delphi and used SQL and Oracle (PL-SQL)
as well. I applied for a full-time job at Eli Lilly and Company and was hired by
them in June 2001.
At Eli Lilly and Company, I started as a developer and support person for the
system used to track clinical trial materials from creation to destruction or
use. This software was written in Forte and I used SQL and SQR as well. I then
moved over to support for Training Administration using SAP and locally developed
software. This job also used EXCEL, SQL, And MS Access. My job has evolved into
a Business Integrator position, so I bridge the gap between business objectives
and technical solutions. I am still employed there, but will be leaving in
August.
So why should you hire me?
" I am a really quick learner.
" I love solving problems and am a superior troubleshooter of software and
hardware who is tenacious and innovative.
" I'm a proven, experienced software developer.
" I can work independently but am also a "team player."
" I have held many supervisory positions and excelled at them.
" I successfully screened for special projects and assignments in the US Navy.
" I was the "go-to guy" and "firefighter" while in the Navy.

(I speak business and geek.)

" I teach (facilitate) Insights.
" I have training in Critical Path.
" I am a published author.
" If you are interested in Myers-Briggs, I am an INFP and there are not very
many of us.
" I was raised with a strong work ethic.
What have I used?

" I would love a job that makes a difference because I want to contribute to the
world.
" An employer who shares my values and has a vision.
" An employer with more leaders than managers (although I know there have to be
some managers.)
" An employer who values people more than things.

" Outstanding coworkers are strongly desired.
" Pleasant working conditions are probably more important than money.
(Telecommuting is my first choice.)
