1993-Sept. 15, 2008: Medquist Corporation. Note: I worked evenings transcribing
medical reports from 1993 to 2001. Medquist had been pursuing me to become full
time with them, as they were impressed with my productivity and skills, so I
decided to become a full-time employee for them in 2001. I transcribe acute care
and other specialties, especially psychiatry/behavioral health. Medquist uses
Microsoft Word, which they have "tweaked" for use for their formats. I am used
to working under extremely tight time constraints to be compliant with turnaround
times. I received the honor of being MT of the month two times for the
Mid-Atlantic region in 2006, for skill and productivity. Medquist has just been
bought out by an offshore company.
1993-2001: Full-time Administrative Assistant/Medical Transcriptionist at
Magellan Behavioral Health Services, Columbia, MD: I worked in the appeals
department and reported to the physicians, transcribing highly confidential
psychiatric reports and doing general administrative office work.
1991-1993: Howard Community College, Columbia, MD: I worked as a secretary for
the professors, transcribing from handwritten notes complex college tests and
associated administrative work.
Located to Maryland in 1979, due to husband's job relocation.
1975-1979: In Arkansas, I worked for a temp agency doing secretarial work until
I had my first child in 1976 and second child in 1979.
1973-1975: IBM HQ in NY: Started as a secretary in the financial department and
was quickly promoted as a legal secretary in the CEO's office, taking shorthand
notes (10-page long documents at one sitting), transcribing confidential
litigation documentation as the main duty of this position. Regretfully, I had
to leave because of my husband's job relocation to Arkansas.
1966-1972: Cumbernauld Town Council in the UK as a legal secretary for what
would be the equivalent in the US as a State Governor (Provost). I sat in on
committee meetings, taking minutes, transcribing and distributing them to the
committee members. There were other administrative duties, such as filing,
photocopying, meeting with the general public. The council sent me on a course
to learn Gestetner printing, and I trained the other town council employees on
same as part of my job.
