Business Systems Analyst
Platforms: QNXT, Mainframe COBOL
As Business Analyst, Caesar's tasks include reviewing of production
report for different Billing processes to identify concerns with the system which
lead to enhancements or updates. After the system runs their scheduled jobs, one
of his goals is to catch issues and/or identify needed updates/changes to the
system to have it function more efficiently. Another major task that he does is
working with clients in introducing possible changes to the system and
identifying impacts to Business. As Subject Matter Expert in the client's Billing
system, Caesar works closely with onshore management as well as clients in
ensuring that the system is working as expected and all issues are always being
looked into. He also works with the development team and the test team in making
sure that all requirements are incorporated from the Business documents to the
technical design and are well tested during the build phase.
Caesar serves as the point person for the BPO Manila team and has the
ff tasks: coordinate efforts and serve as liaison with the India Development
team, the US team and the Manila teams. He reviews initiatives/projects with the
Project Manager as well as other stakeholders and provides inputs and suggestions
taking into account the current processes that are in place. One of the projects
that he worked on was the successful pilot implementation of new interface for
enrollment process.
2005–2008 Accenture (client: Large US Nat’l Health Insurer)
Senior Software Engineer/QA Tester/QA Lead/Systems Analyst
Platforms: PeopleSoft, Seebeyond, Oracle, IBM-DB2
QA/System Tester - From October 2005 to June 2006.
Caesar's main responsibilities consist of creating test deliverables
which include Test Conditions, Test Scripts, and Test Scenarios/Storyboard,
coordinating with different teams to setup test data, executing and validating
test scripts, logging of defects, working with development teams in retesting
failed functionalities and integrating with UAT team after the System Test phase.
To have these tasks completed successfully, he had to work closely with different
teams including the clients by attending meetings, status report sessions as well
as by presenting to them walkthroughs and knowledge transfer sessions throughout
the Test phase. The main goal of this role is to test the system's different
processes after new and existing functionalities are introduced and/or updated.
This involved setting up data from source application to be processed thru the
system's data warehouses. As system tester, he was involved in creating,
populating and querying data into these system's tables in the test environment
in order to validate that correct information are processed.
QA/QC/Onsite Coordinator - From June 2006 to April 2007.
Apart from being the coordinator between client and offshore resources,
Caesar was also the lead QC resource. He was in charge of setting up customer
data correctly for tester's use. In order to do this he worked closely with
different teams consisting of Client and Accenture teams from source systems to
downstream applications to setup data that are needed for different test
scenarios. Additionally, during this period, Caesar was assigned as lead of test
initiatives handled by offshore testers with tasks of reviewing and managing
their day-to-day deliverables.
Systems Analyst - From November 2007 to February 2008.
Worked with Business Analysts, Developers and System Testers in
understanding business requirements, integrating these into the current system
and identifying critical test scenarios. As an SA, Caesar completed his tasks
hand in hand with the Business team as well as the Development team to ensure
that all requirements needed by business are clear to all and are well translated
in the system through correct coding and testing. His main objective is to create
an effective Functional Requirements Document which correctly reflects the system
changes or updates.
Results Achieved:
Value Creator:
- Caesar was able to effectively manage walkthrough meetings of the
team. He ensured that the team comes to the meeting well prepared. He conducted
mock walkthrough with his team members to let them become more comfortable in
discussing their topic and also to provide review points or feedback. This shows
his ability to improve not only his work but also the work that the entire team
delivers.
- Caesar is one of the most knowledgeable in the group in terms of
technical and functional concepts in the system. He drives the team by putting in
what he knows and allowing the whole team benefit from it. His expertise has
greatly helped the team define effective approach to testing.
- He has also performed the role of Systems Analyst for one of the
team's projects. He was able to deliver the design to the client with minimal
supervision from the other Systems Analysts. His dedication to have in depth
knowledge of the function assigned to him has contributed in getting the tasks
delivered on time.
- Caesar encouraged the team to document what they learn and upload it
in client SharePoint so everyone had access to it. He made sure that there is a
continuous improvement document that the team can report on in the governance
deck for the client. He had pushed for a change in the test storyboard
spreadsheet with the client because he believes that the original template is not
the best tool that can be used. He provided suggestions on how to improve the
tool, set up a meeting to discuss it with the client, and implemented changes.
That has been very beneficial to the group since less effort is required on the
new template. This action by the offshore team was highly recognized and
commended by the clients as these were very useful to the testing team.
People Developer:
- Caesar pushed the team to always do better in each presentation. He
provided tips from proper hosting of call down to doing preparation in handling
all questions. He throws a lot of questions during mock walkthrough to ensure
that the team member is well prepared to face the clients who will be throwing
similar questions.
- Caesar was able to provide quarterly feedback for resources assigned
to him. He has also set up one on one meeting with them to ensure that all areas
for improvement are addressed as soon as possible. He has also built strong
professional relationship with each one of them which allowed his team to openly
discuss their issues with work. He says how each one can improve his deliverables
in a very positive and encouraging manner.
- Caesar was an effective coach to his team because he was able to show
expertise in testing and application's functionality. He takes time to sit with a
resource to help him or her understand technical or functional concepts.
- He was also able to provide sound work advice to the team and is able
to lift members’ morale by understanding where they're coming from while at the
same time making them realize what action plans are required from each party.
He's able to show this attitude in team meetings.
Business Operator:
- Caesar was able to promote and implement effective review process in
order to deliver work which is of high quality. Team's compliance to processes
has also greatly improved. His role as a lead has greatly influenced this since
he's the one ensuring that they are implemented.
- Caesar goes over and beyond just to meet the schedule. He knows how
to prioritize the team's tasks, develop action plans and allocate them to
resources. During critical times when a lot needs to be completed in a day, he
could quickly develop a plan on what needs to be done and who needs to do it.
- Team's test effectiveness has improved as a result of the team's
effort to share knowledge with each other. Caesar was able to supervise this
knowledge sharing by letting the resources know who can be tapped on certain
functionalities.
2003–2005 Accenture (client: Large US Nat’l Health Insurer)
Software Developer
Platforms: Java, IBM-DB2, Unix
Caesar's tasks include investigation of customer related issues,
testing of workarounds in the breakfix/test environment and deployment of fixes
for client issues in production. In order to complete analysis of issues,
validation of data in the system's tables is done through SQL query as well as
analysis of information in XML format after every business event run.
Some of the tasks that have been completed with Caesar as part of the
team include the revision/enhancement of internal tools used in solving customer
issues, the improvement of processes and procedures which help the team better
understand and fix encountered issues and the continuous decrease of open
customer issues.
