CTB/McGraw-Hill’s primary business is as a publisher of student testing
products.

From 1984 until 2008 I was involved as one of the primary developers of a
mainframe based scoring system for these products. This was made up in a
CA-IDEAL based online application suite for overall control, and an automated
PL/I batch system to execute the performance intensive scoring, sorting,
summarization, and reporting system. The underlying database used is
CA-DatacomDB using navigation and SQL access from PL/I, and ODBC access from PC
based VB utilities.

09/1982 to present Independent Contract Programmer.
CTB/McGraw-Hill: Please see above for contract and employee work with CTB.

FNOC/NEPRF: Enhancements to a customized graphic system used by the US Navy to
display weather information. This included various utility programs, as well as
a RISC based graphics co-processor. Weather data was transferred directly to the
co-processor for display/printing under control of the operator’s console.

ICL: Sole software developer of the ICL 9520 POS terminal, a replacement for the
9505/07 line.

MPS, a micro based POS backoffice system used for the loading of options to the
9520.

OS/2 Drivers for an interface board allowing the connection of up to eight 9520
terminals to a PC running OS/2. Complete support for full interactivity.

TCP/IP interfacing of POS terminals. Redundant OS/2 based terminals for lookup
and history collection, supporting multiple DOS based terminals. Transaction
history transmitted to a back office UNIX system for database collection and
in-store reporting.

SDI: C/C++ interfaces and device drivers for various Point of Sale devices
providing a common interface between the customer application and the hardware.

A VT100 terminal emulator for DOS/Windows with extensions to allow various POS
peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, scales, cash drawers and check
readers.

MacroNav: C/C++ interfaces for use by VB6, VB.net and VB Script programs to
provide access to vehicle navigation databases and devices on Windows CE, XP, and
Vista.

Creation of a compressed map format containing deCarta RMF data and associated
indexes in a single compressed file, with associated COM objects to access the
data together with the deCarta Rich Map Engine.

04/1980 to 08/1982 Systems Analyst, Cyberdata Corporation.

I was responsible for the continuing development of a back office system for
K-Mart Canada. This was an Intel 8080 based system with a proprietary preemptive
multitasking operating system supporting a system monitor, communications, and
four user tasks. As used by K-Mart, the four tasks where assigned to the
managers console, a print spooler, POS terminal data collection, and POS data
processing. The system supported a built-in VNC capability allowing the system
to be monitored and controlled remotely via the communications link.

I also provided support and enhancement for the EFM POS terminals used by K-Mart
Canada.

Developed a synchronous communications link for use at the K-Mart Canada home
office to transmit data received from the in-store systems to the IBM-MF computer
for additional processing.

Converted the firmware used in the K-Mart POS terminals, so they could become
the ICL 9505/07 line.

09/1976 to 02/1980 Technical Officer, International Computers Limited.

Originally recruited and hired to work in the United Kingdom to continue
development and maintenance of the Singer family of computer systems and POS
terminals.

After training ICL personal to take over those tasks, I moved to a hardware
development group, providing embedded system programming for various peripheral
devices and factory test equipment using Intel 8085 microprocessors.

02/1975 to 08/1976 Software Engineer, Singer Business Machines.

Originally hired into the Point of Sale back office group to develop a system to
provide services to Grocery Store Point of Sale terminals. System included the
ability to collect sales data, as well as real-time information about store
throughput, summarization, sorting, and in store reporting.

I later moved to the System development group, maintaining general system and
development tools such as assemblers, linkers, text editors, sorts and a file
maintenance suite. I continued to maintain and develop a disk based file and
peripheral access system. The file system supported index linked, random and
direct access methods.

02/1972 to 01/1975 Data Processing Manager, U.S. Universal.

Responsible for the operations and programming of three mini-computer system
with 20-30 attached terminals. This included programming of general business
applications including accounts receivable/payable, inventory, general ledger,
order entry and fulfillment, as well as system utilities for system maintenance
and scheduling. I was also responsible for the collection of sales information
via daily polling of several retail locations to accumulate sales information
from POS terminals.
