1/8/2001 – 7/5/2005	Avanade, Inc.	New York, NY
Sr. Solution Architect
Avanade is a global technology integrator providing services for customers
primarily on Microsoft based platforms. As a joint venture between Microsoft and
Accenture (formerly Anderson Consulting), Avanade was created to be the premier
enterprise technology integrator using Microsoft technology.

As a senior Solution Architect, I have been involved in several projects for
many fortune 1000 companies as a lead Database architect. Some highlights
include (customer names withheld to comply with NDA’s):

	Recently worked on a very large project developing an election
management system for several state election boards. As the reporting team lead,
I ran a 9 person team to develop reporting architecture and reporting strategy.
Complex reporting requirements demanded fully dynamic filtering and online report
modification. Mailing subsystem required strictly defined mailing formats as
well as tracking of returned mailings and returned ballots. Technologies used
were Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SP1) and VB.NET. Also used COM
Interop to provide background printing capability of PDF formatted output.
	For a large Debt Management Company, I designed and developed a
scalable and versatile database schema to replace an existing application that
was reaching the limits of its own scale. This new database was designed to
consolidate 12 other databases that ranged in size from 1 GB to 3 GB.
Responsibilities also included building a migration plan and migrating data from
the existing databases into the new database, as well as providing standardized
stored procedure script templates for application developers. Additionally, I
providing an operations framework to provide guidelines for on site DBA’s to
manage the database and maintain high quality and performance. The new database
proved to be more scalable and better performing than the existing system.
Additionally, I was also the lead in implementing SQL Server Reporting Services
(Beta) as the primary reporting engine for the new application.
	Designed and developed a versatile and scalable ETL application to load
a data warehouse for the fourth largest retail brokerage firm in the country
(based in the Tampa, Florida area). This ETL framework was built using Microsoft
SQL Server 2000 and Data Transformation Services. This application provided
detailed logging of all ETL steps, handled Type I and Type II data, provided
robust exception handling, and had the ability to recover from failure. This ETL
application implemented many performance enhancing techniques including parallel
processing and was capable of extracting, transforming, and loading over 10GB of
data from 5 heterogeneous data sources in under 2 ½ hours.
	Performance tuned a multi-terabyte database and application for a large
global bank. The system was developed in house by developers in London and
managed by a team of DBA’s in London as well as New York. The system was used to
track interest rate swaps for the banks prime banking group. When complete, I
was able to reduce the time it took their overnight processes to complete from 4
hours to under ½ hour. The final solution included some physical changes to the
database as well as re-writing stored procedure code and re-designing indexes.
	Handled various projects for another large banking concern including
developing a real-time disaster recovery framework for their online banking
system and developing a robust, real-time reporting system for a new retail
banking application. The disaster recovery project involved using a combination
of Microsoft Clustering Services and EMC SRDF to replicate real-time data changes
to a remote site 15 miles away and provide the ability to switch over the
environment with downtime limited to 15 minutes. While the requirements called
for a maximum allowable loss of data at 10 minutes, our testing proved that in
most cases data loss would be zero. For their retail banking group, I developed
a robust ETL process to move data into a near real-time reporting system
database. Source data was encrypted and stored in binary format and needed to be
extracted into a reportable format. Allowed latency for the report server was a
maximum of 20 minutes and it was necessary to provide ETL throughput of 100
business transactions per second.

1/1/2000 – 12/31/2000	ECOR Solutions, Inc.	New York, NY
Principle, Founder, and CTO
As one of 3 founders of a startup web development services provider, I handled
all technical aspects of various projects, including architecture and project
management. Provided end to end development for several e-commerce web
application using Microsoft Windows 2000, IIS, ASP, VB COM, and SQL Server 2000.
Assembled a small technical team to interface with our creative team. Also
developed a standard proprietary e-commerce architecture to provide rapid
development and deployment for customer projects. Other projects included
migration of a Lotus Notes application to an ASP/SQL Server application for an
international bank and building a VB desktop application for a company that deals
with retirement planning strategies.

11/8/1996 – 12/31/1999	Valinor, Inc.	New York, NY
Principle Consultant

Various projects for Fortune 1000 companies ranging from desktop application
development to enterprise database architecture. As a principle consultant, I
was also responsible for project management and team building. Projects included
:

	For a large healthcare provider in the Boston area, performed high
level systems architecture and development for a real time online data warehouse
to support an intranet application. This project involved designing a system
that performed OLAP based operations on medical diagnostic data. The purpose of
the system was to assist researchers collecting aggregated data useful for
genomic studies and experiments. Technologies employed were SQL Server 7.0, IIS,
Visual Basic, ASP, ActiveX, and ADO. The application utilized ActiveX controls
in a browser that operated on disconnected ADO record sets. Requests were sent
for processing by assembling XML requests. These requests were processes and
returns as XML record set that were then loaded into ADO record sets bound to
hierarchical flex grids.
	BarnesandNoble.com: Managed a complex SQL Server 6.5 replication
architecture for to support the main title database. This project involved a
combination of DBA and design responsibilities. The configuration consisted of
main transactional databases that were larger than 20GB being replicated to 11
online databases over slow WAN links. Developed strategies and automated
processes to repair out of sync publications that would normally require
extensive work and time to re-sync. At one point was able to repair a corrupt
transaction log which would have required total manual re-synchronization that
would have taken 2 months to complete. Instead the work was completed in 2 weeks
without any noticeable effects to online users. Also involved in suggesting
architectural improvement to the application infrastructure.
	Helped a derivative trading firm design a database that enables client
to enter orders and view potential deals for FRA’s (forward rate agreements) over
the Internet. This database required real-time analysis and processing of
positions in order to match longs and shorts. Algorithms were able to match up
positions of up to 30 clients over a 30 day period, sometime resulting in
millions of permutations.
	Led the development of an E-Commerce site for a publishing and
copyrights vendor. Did extensive SQL and ASP work. This project involved using
ASP, Commerce Server 2.0 and SQL Server 6.5. Was the only database designer for
this project. Created a complex design to model a highly intricate pricing
structure. The site created for this project served as a model for all future
E-Commerce sites used for re-selling of copyrights.
