Achievements
Designed a counting program for quality control of the data called COUNTS in
FoxPro that is used by the company on a daily basis.
Helped design a process used for clustering records, especially in bank
information.
Set up applications that run automated operations.
Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, New York
System, Network, and Software Administrator, Sept. 1997-Jan. 1998
Maintained a Novell 4.11 server at two hospital sites, and a FoxPro database on
one Novell Server.
Achievements
Took the Novell server from each site and combined them into 1 master Novell
server.
Waste Stream Technology, Buffalo, New York
Computer Consultant, Apr. 1995-Oct. 1997
Designed a database using FoxPro to store all of their experimental data and
created the ability for their company to produce multiple reports using various
templates. Developed programs to collect, transform and manipulate data
displayed by a number of instruments used to assay environmental samples so that
the data could be read into FoxPro. Upgraded the software and redesigned the
program when they changed servers.
Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York
System and Network Administrator, Computer Programmer, Sept. 1992-Mar. 1997
As the single IT resource person in a department of 75, I maintained a SUN
workstation server that was the principle pipeline for all computers and file
handling including 2 SUN workstations using NFS and all department PCs and
Macintoshes. I also maintained a Windows NT server, which provided additional
file and print sharing. I was responsible for designing graphics and slide
presentations for submission of grants, lectures, papers and publications using
graphics programs for both the Macintosh and PC. I adapted commercial software
with utility programs in C to facilitate transfer of data. I created and
designed almost 100 web pages that included information on personnel, tables,
graphical data, and links to other software applications for displaying data,
much of it connected to a genetic database for the Human Genome Project (see
publication). The database reads a flat file and allows the user of any of three
platforms, MAC, PC, SUN, to search for a genetic sequence and see the location of
the contig as displayed in a graphical image using postscript format.
Achievements
Maintained the SUN server, NFS server, E-mail server.
Created and maintained the WWW Page/Server for the Department of Human
Genetics.
Provided a graphical database for Chromosome 11 that I was able to
continuously up-grade with new or modified gene sequences and their position on a
gene map.
Set up a network at a remote site in Canada for a Chromosome 11 workshop that
was available to all scientists attending the weeklong meeting.
