Mainframe:
Team member to support the financial applications for a leading
healthcare provider.
Using COBOL, CICS, DB2, SPUFI, JCL, TSO, JAVA, ORACLE, INSYNC, ENDEVOR and
Xpeditor.
Asked to provide system side support for CICS and DB2 problems.
Lead analyst for AMTRUST application, handled modifications and batch
scheduling using CONTROL-M. Monitored nightly processing to ensure critical path
processing was complete. Made modifications to the tax reporting system. Was also
involved with disaster recovery and infrastructure aspects of the application.
Also involved with support of data transfers using a variety of protocols. Was
responsible for change management controls using ENDEVOR. Performed CICS region
customization based upon client requirements.
Lead developer for brokerage system using COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, TSO.
Acted as a team lead for 4 developers. Using the BETA software package.
Responsible for change control processing using CHANGEMAN.
Technical lead for support of trust accounting software package, using
COBOL, CICS (both systems and application side) DB2, JCL, VSAM, and TSO. The
software package was AMTRUST.
Coded and maintained application for insurance claims using COBOL,
CICS, DB2, VSAM, JCL, and TSO.
Lead team of eight developers on various projects using COBOL, CICS,
DB2, JCL, and TSO.
Part of a team that converted a VM environment to MVS, CICS, DB2. This
was all work on the systems side no application work.
Converted a VM environment to MVS, CICS, DB2, designed and coded
automated database reorgs.
Design and Leadership:
Designed, coded and implemented an auto rebate system for flooring
distributors.
Designed coded and implemented a new 1099 tax form within three week
deadline. Saved the firm thousands of dollars in IRS penalties.
Automated a manually intensive batch testing process cutting man hours
from 24 to 8 per day.
Lead a team to evaluate cost benefits of system downsizing; eventual
results saved the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in contract fees and
personnel costs.
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, this was
most effective during disaster recovery testing.
Lead the team that had our application go "GREEN" during disaster
recovery, if we had not the product would have been dissolved.
Assisted in moving two data centers including applications and
infrastructure.
Part of a team that opened a west coast data center in Culver City,
CA.
Assisted with converting from a Prime/Fortran environment to IBM
mainframe.

Analysis of billing online application failure. Designed and coded
short time work around report for insurance billing department
Analysis and design of coding changes to make online billing adjustment
edits much more robust for the prevention of duplication of adjustments.
Design, code and test permanent fixes to the online billing
applications and added additional functionality for the end users.
Part of a team to archive information from Oracle database to
historical DB2 databases.
Assist with systems side of support for multiple groups for CICS and
DB2 issues.
Lead Analyst for archive of DB2 database and data purges for large
reporting database.
Responsible for synchronization of multiple test environments this
included CICS region customization and DB2 setup.

Assisted with the start up of a new business in the Richmond area.
Responsible for feasibility study, cost estimating for initial start up as well
as ongoing business operations. Profit analysis to insure that the business would
be viable.
Kroger Corporation, Richmond, VA - Consultant
2004 to 2007
Responsibilities included: Purchasing and inventory control management.
Used Microsoft tools to effectively establish a department within the store. Used
and modified proprietary software for sales reporting needs. Platform was AS400
using COBOL.
First Union Securities, Richmond, VA – Systems Analyst III
1998 to 2004
Responsibilities included: Tax reporting, created reports prior to 1099
processing using COBOL and JCL. Created new 1099 form from two new data sources,
used DB2 for the new data sources and allowed DB2 functions to handle counts and
sums for the COBOL program creating the form. Rewrote the Broker’s Commission
System using COBOL and DB2. Created data modeling process for the rewrite and
automated the process cutting man hours from 18 hours per test to 6 hours per
test. Was part of the team responsible for disaster recovery from backups to
restores and the hot site. Part of a team that moved the data center twice, first
from Richmond to Charlotte NC, then from Charlotte to Milwaukee WI. As the firm
would acquire new brokerage firms, was responsible for tuning the nightly batch
process to ensure morning readiness. This included rearranging the batch process,
DASD tuning, and DB2 tuning. Tools used were MVS, COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL,
TSO/ISPF, Zeke, CA7/CA11 , IBM Utilities, DFHSM, Changeman, NDM, FILEAID,
EZTRIEVE.
Fidelity Investments, Dallas TX – Project Manager
1994 to 1998
Responsibilities included: Sales support, customizing a large trust
accounting package AMTRUST to fit the customer’s needs. Customization and set up
included definition of over 100 VSAM files. Customization if CICS regions
including PPT, PCT, FCT, LU6.2, RCT entries. Established DB2 environments. Set up
the batch schedule using CONTROL-M. Was responsible for disaster recovery of this
product including backups and restores at the hot site. Part of a team that moved
a data center from Charlotte NC to Irving TX. Was the only application developer
with CEDA access to customize CICS regions on the fly. Was part of a team to
ensure workflow management for all Fidelity applications. Tools used MVS, COBOL,
CICS, DB2, JCL, IBM utilities, CONTROL-M , DB2 and CICS utilities, DFHSM and
STOPX37, ENDEVOR, NDM, EZTRIEVE.
Citicorp Insurance, Dover, DE – Systems Analyst
1991 to 1994
Responsibilities included: Support and development of various insurance
applications. Developed lockbox processing system to support interface with
CITIBANK credit card applications. Languages and tools used MVS, COBOL, CICS,
VSAM, DB2, IDMS, IBM utilities, CA7/CA11, CLIST, EZTRIEVE, JCL NDM.
Mannington Mills, Salem, NJ – Project Leader
1988 to 1991
Responsibilities included: Design code and test a major system to
handle distributor rebates using COBOL, CICS and DB2. This was a parameter driven
system using DB2 to store parameters. Responsible for support of other financial
applications i.e., Accounts Receivable, Claims Processing, Sales Reporting, EDI,
etc. Was part of a team to evaluate the need of the mainframe due to the size of
the company and the cost of maintenance for the mainframe. The company based on
our recommendations moved to an AS400 platform. Tools used MVS, COBOL, DB2, JCL,
IBM Utilities, DB2 Backup and recovery.
Towers, Perrin, Foster and Crosby, Philadelphia, PA – Systems Engineer
1984 to 1988
Responsibilities included: Part of a team to convert a VM shop to
MVS/CICS and DB2. Work was on the system side acted as CICS systems programmer
and DB2 DBA. Was responsible for maintenance and recovery of both environments.
Used ISPF dialogue manager to automate DB2 utilities. Tools used MVS, CICS, DB2,
COBOL, TSO/ISPF, DB2 utilities, CICS utilities.
SEI Corporation, Valley Forge, PA – Developer
1978 to 1984
Responsibilities included: Initially this was a Prime Fortran
environment. Developed various programs using FORTRAN to enhance a large trust
accounting package. Was part of a team selected to open a west coast data center
in Culver City, Ca. Was part of a team to convert the environment to MVS.
Application still used FORTRAN code and ADABASE as the data base.
