OBJECTIVE
Seeking a mainframe application programmer/analyst position with an emphasis on
technical programming skills. Strengths include over 25 years of experience using
a wide variety of mainframe and PC tools, the desire to provide excellent
customer service, excellent mentoring skills, the ability to creatively solve
problems, and a rare combination of technical skills that allow me to write
TSO/ISPF applications for my fellow programmers to help make them more productive
and efficient. Am willing to relocate to KY, IN or OH (in that order).

HISTORY
Programmer/Analyst Consultant (April, 2009 to Present) Software Specialists
(client is PNC Bank)
* Wrote several COBOL programs and 600+ batch jobs in for an ARP SMS CD-ROM
output project for a merger with National City bank.
* Designed CLIST/Edit Macro's that applied updates to the 600+ ARP SMS jobs in
minutes, saving many hours of programming effort.
* Major rewrite of CLIST/REXX/Dialog Manager application used to send outbound
files to customers from ARP SMS system. Many new functions and edits added,
resulting in improved SLA's and significant reductions in abends. Created an 80+
screen PowerPoint to train end users and programmers on this application.
* Conversion of old CLIST application used to test new inbound issues, paid, and
stop files for ARP SMS. Converted the CLIST to REXX with a Dialog Manger GUI
front-end (in progress, not complete yet). Performance tuning of batch jobs used
in process.
Programmer/Analyst Consultant (November, 2007 to October, 2008) THOR, Inc.
(client was Wellpoint)
* Wrote documentation for how to use and troubleshoot the NASCO IO Accessor in
COBOL programs.
* Rehosted a COBOL and Easytrieve batch claim processing cycle from one
mainframe to another.
* Designed specs, coded and implemented COBOL, Easytrieve and JCL changes for
two large projects that simultaneously impacted the same claims processing
programs.
* Performance tuned production and test jobs and NDM transmissions. Reduced run
times from 20% to 90%.
* Production support, including creation of automated e-mail notification when
batch jobs abend.
* Technical mentor for other team members for COBOL, VSAM and the NASCO IO
Accessor.
Lead Programmer/Analyst Consultant (November, 2004 to September, 2007) Modis,
Inc.
* Modified hundreds of batch jobs, 30 COBOL (some DB2) and Easytrieve programs,
and approximately 10 COBOL CICS programs as part of the ARP team's merger between
JP Morgan Chase and Bank One.
* Designed and taught training classes for ChangeMan, Zeke and
CA-View/CA-Deliver (SAR).
* Designed a sophisticated test system build tool that automated most of the
setup work for the CICS test regions, batch cycles, Zeke, SAR and GDG builds.
Components included approximately 25 ISPF Dialog Manager screens, 30 CLISTs, 75
File-Aid steps, 20 Easytrieve programs, 400 control cards and 20 batch jobs. This
tool reduced the setup time from 4-5 days to just a few hours.
* Created and maintained 6,300 softcopy technical manuals to help improve the
team's productivity.

* Updates to 50 batch programs and 150 JCL jobs to the Checkfree ARP system for
Union Bank of California.
Lead Programmer/Analyst Consultant (December, 2002 to February 2004) Sogeti,
Columbus, Ohio
* Managed a project that analyzed performance differences between FTP and NDM
for outbound ARP files.
* Designed complex automated process to convert several thousand ARP outbound
JES Remote Line transmissions to FTP. Tools used included File-AID, Syncsort,
ISPF Edit macros and REXX.
* Wrote complex COBOL program and EZT program to create new monthly Stop Pay ARP
report.
* Performed maintenance related activities on ARP COBOL OS/390 DB2 and KSDS VSAM
programs.
* Provided production support of mainframe ARP FTP jobs for large corporate
customers.
* Performance tuning of ARP batch jobs and VSAM files used by the Checkfree SMS
system.
* Converted several hundred batch jobs, PROCs, control cards, rerun
documentation and disaster recovery documentation for a mainframe consolidation
project.
* Fulfilled the role of a Lead Technical Analyst for JCL changes on 60+ batch
jobs to build data transmission bridges between two mainframes using mainframe
FTP.
Senior Programmer/Analyst (1999 to 2002) Huntington Bank, Columbus, Ohio
* Wrote several complex DB2/SQL, VSAM, COBOL and Easytrieve programs to create
numerous reports for Web Bank, Bill Pay, PC Banking and Voice Response Unit.
* Developed new batch and online programs for the Call Center and Teller
Automation teams. This also involved creating 50+ new jobs to back up, restore
and migrate changes for seven CICS regions.
* Created CICS and batch Teller Automation programs using MQSeries to interface
with the ARGO Teller vendor system (used ARGO only a brief amount of time before
transferring to another team).
* Created an extensive testing checklist for CICS programs.
* Extensive use of QMF Windows/Mainframe for ad hoc reporting.
* Provided CICS and batch production support for the Call Center, Teller
Automation and Web Bank teams.
* Used Crystal Info/Reports to produce several ad hoc reports using DB2 Connect.
* Used AppScan to check for application security risks in world's first
real-time updates web bank (E-bank). Performed several additional manual
security checks that AppScan couldn't do.

* Managed two Year 2000 projects at Bank One in the EDI department. Also
conducted testing for Vector 2.1 vendor software, wrote scripts, provided
documentation.
* Developed an EDI training program for new employees. This program was used as
a model for other teams.
* Established Disaster Recovery plans, provided documentation and executed
several drills for 200 batch jobs, and 5 CICS systems.
Programmer/Analyst Consultant (1992 to 1996) Cap Gemini America, Columbus,

Programmer/analyst assignments for clients that included AEP, Nationwide
Insurance, Columbus Life Insurance, Limited Express, Sprint/United Telephone and
Bank One.
* Extensive use of SPUFI to produce a variety of ad hoc reports and to update
production DB2 tables.
* Completed about 25 maintenance requests for online and batch systems at
Columbus Life.
* Converted 25 CICS and batch programs from COBOL to COBOL II at Bank One.
* Performed analysis, programming, and testing for 25 CICS programs at AEP.
Production support.
* Technical lead for a five person team unit and system testing effort for a
major online and batch system at Nationwide Insurance. Our team won employees of
the month awards for our efforts.
* Wrote 500 DRHOST test scripts for Bank One.
* Wrote new batch programs, modified existing ones for a large order processing
development project at the Limited Express.
Senior Programmer/Analyst (1981 - 1992) Lincoln National Corp., Ft. Wayne, IN
Achieved three promotions during this time. Condensed list below covers all four
job levels.
* Completed analysis and developed estimates for conversion of 60 CICS programs
from Macro to HLPI.
* Performed analysis and developed estimates to bring 12 CICS programs up to
release 3.2.1 standards.
* Initiated batch job changes that reduced run-time expenses by about $25,000.
* Performed emergency maintenance on eight life and health insurance systems.
* New development and maintenance on two IMS database and VSAM file systems.
EDUCATION
* One year college at Indiana/Purdue Ft. Wayne (IPFW) in 1980, majoring in
Computer Science. Then attended 3.5 months full-time, on the job (college level
IT courses) in Lincoln National Corporation's Central Training Unit (CTU). The
CTU courses provided me with the equivalent technical training of about a
four-year college degree in Computer Science. Additional professional courses,
