• Hands on manager, manages activity of all UNIX department team.

UNIX team is responsible for
• General health of all UNIX systems, Interfaces, Protocols, Production, Data
Quality, and Services provided by US Postal Service. Customer interfaces are via
CD, Direct transfer, and WEB protocols.
• Approximately 70 Linux and UNIX servers and quality of approximately 25
terabyte SAN (EVA5000), and applications that create approximately 66 Postal
licensed products used by internal and external Postal Customers (national and
international).
• UNIX production side of Address Quality and National Change of Address
database (NCOA) updates for all delivery points across entire United States.
• UNIX Server side of U.S. ZIP+4 database system (maintained and updated
daily).
• Smooth flow of information between all Postal networks and NCSC.
• Accuracy of UNIX updates of valid addresses database.
• Routinely perform systems administration, storage administration,
configurations, systems analysis, problem analysis, and recovery tasks.

Major projects at NCSC/USPS
• Manage the migration of NCSC’s Sun Solaris Enterprise System network to USPS
IT operations in Eagan, MN (26 USPS national applications).
• Manage UNIX side of NCSC migration of MoversGuide.Com to USPS.com.
• Drive the lifecycle planning, justification, and purchase of Sun Fire servers
to replace NCSC’s obsolete Sun Enterprise servers and Upgrade Production SAN in
Eagan, MN. Capital acquisition cost over 2 Million dollars (EBuy).
• Conceive, plan, justify, and acquire, a new high speed HP Linux and Windows
server network, and HP storage area network (supports 61 USPS Licensed Products).
Capital acquisition cost over 1.2 Million dollars (EBuy).
• Design and develop business class of service process improvements for licensed
customer product fulfillment (25,000 to 45,000 CD/DVD sets plus web
distribution).
