* Has served as a member of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s

Director of Public Relations, Fifth U.S. Army, San Antonio, Texas 2002 – 2005
* Directed all public relations activities for a high profile defense
organization located in San Antonio. The organization consisted of over 6,000
employees in 21 states - managed a staff of six personnel and a $153,000 budget -
facilitated media relations and disseminated organizational information and
public notification of community relations activities - served as organizational
spokesperson and subject matter expert on all public relations activities -
responded to media queries, prepared press releases, fact sheets, white papers
and media advisories. Prepared responses to Congressional and Legislative
inquiries. Established close working relationships with numerous organizations
in the San Antonio area. These organizations include, but are not limited to,
the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, San Antonio Rodeo and Livestock
Show, the USO, KLRN Public Television, the Military Affairs Committee (MAC), the
Fiesta Commission, Association of the U.S. Army (Alamo Chapter) and the Mayor’s
office. Created a mutually supportive and cooperative working relationship with
the San Antonio Express News, local radio stations and television outlets.
RESULTS: A strong sense of community involvement and close working relationship
with various civic leaders and organizations. Maintained strong business
relationships with leaders in media outlets and civic organizations across the
western half of the United States.
* Coordinated public relations operations with the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) as well as with other local, state, and federal agencies as part of
the Homeland Security initiative; conducted press conferences and crisis
communication management; facilitated media coverage of several disaster relief
training exercises; coordinated media coverage of the “Columbia “shuttle disaster
recovery efforts. RESULTS: Established a close working relationship with the
Regional FEMA Headquarters along with other local, state and federal agencies,
allowing an open and seamless flow of communication between each of the agencies.
* Managed the content and appearance of a highly trafficked organizational
website; analyzed existing web page and identified areas for improvement;
provided for security review and oversight to ensure compliance with federal
security guidelines. RESULTS: A highly professional and informative website that
complies with federal regulations.
* Facilitated the complex public relations efforts leading to the U.S. Senate
confirmation of a senior military officer’s promotion to an executive leadership
role; provided media guidance throughout the fifteen month process; prepared
media analysis and monitored published stories about the officer; assisted with
media interview preparation. RESULTS: The nomination for promotion was approved
by the U.S. Senate with no restrictions.
Director, Media Relations / Public Information, U.S. Military Academy, West
Point, New York 2001 – 2002
* Facilitated massive media requests in preparation for the United States
Military Academy’s bicentennial celebration; fielded queries from local,
national, and international media over a fifteen month period; assisted numerous
media outlets in the completion of their projects, including nationally
syndicated broadcast news, radio, wire service, newspaper, book authors,
photographers, and magazine outlets. RESULTS: The Academy gained worldwide
publicity for the major event; the department received “PR Week” magazine’s
“Public Sector Campaign of the Year” award for its achievements.
* Managed the activities of a “National Geographic” film crew for one year
during the filming of a comprehensive documentary on the United States Military
Academy at West Point; coordinated all interviews with cadets, faculty, and
staff; produced a daily schedule for filming; prepared research on the academy’s
history and provided historical photographs and data. RESULTS: The Academy
received overwhelming positive coverage in the local, national, and international
media after the 14-part documentary aired on National Geographic Television.
Director of Public Relations, 1st Infantry Division, Wuerzburg, Germany 1993 –
1996
* Worked closely with the Government Relations Advisor to the German Government
on building positive working relationships with local government officials and
the civilian community.
* Served as the principle spokesperson for the organization and advisor to the
commander on all public affairs related activities.
* Coordinated media coverage of the organization with Armed Forces Network Radio
and TV and the Stars and Stripes Newspaper.
* Responsible for publishing a bi-weekly newspaper that supported six different
military communities.
* Served as the Public Affairs Officer for the U.S. contingent of the United
Nations Peacekeeping Forces in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Worked
closely with numerous foreign media agencies to assist them in producing their
news stories.
