Senior Manager Quality Assurance 1995  *  2009

The scope of responsibility included the maturation of the Quality Assurance
technology and processes from a manual testing environment to automated testing
as stated project goals. Goal of the Quality Assurance efforts is to turn out
products of consistent, know quality and provide the ability to measure that
quality. Team provided Quality Assurance support for 25 active products. On 60
projects developed over 5,000 scripts automated about half of the scripts.

As a senior manager, helped to drive the current and future growth of the
banking product software business in support of the company strategic goals and
objectives. The primary goal of management responsibilities was to increase the
breadth and depth of testing and quality within the organization. The secondary
goal was to raise professionalism throughout the organization by implementing
formal processes and procedures. 

My knowledge of testing and customer support is a strong foundation for success
as a QA test manager. Hands on management of teams of testers helps me understand
what my team can and can't do and to communicate effectively to management
guidelines. My knowledge of technology has been quite important as well; because
it allows me to more effective facilitate quality risk analysis sessions.
Generally, utilizing domain knowledge is critical to accumulate critical testing
information. Any application can be learned but testing knowledge is instinctive.
For individual testers who design tests and/or do exploratory testing, domain
knowledge is more important, and grows more important the more complex the
domain.

 *  Developed and documented a deliberate, reproducible, approach for all
application testing efforts which included requirement review, functional design
documentation, integrated Quality Assurance quality plans and quality test plans
into each Project Management Organization project. Utilized corporate PMO
processes and utilizing predictable SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) flow.

 *  Testing performed on many platforms including: PC  's LAN and web based; IBM
mainframes; combinations of IBM mainframes and web applications.

 *  Developed and authored the model PMO Quality Assurance    Project Testing
Plan    and the model    Project Quality Plan   . These are project Quality
Assurance support documents required during the PMO process. 
 
 *  In all of the automated QA projects, the number of customer defects and
problems reported was fewer than non-automated testing. Quality Center   defects
reported and worked by development/support teams initially increased as automated
testing scripts were implemented. After the initial defects were reported, the
subsequent releases yielded fewer defects. These results are based upon metrics
prepared by both development and QA teams. After initial automated scripting was
developed the number of defects on new development was perceived to be fewer than
in previous development efforts. 

 *  One unique process is that base regression testing scripts are off loaded to
the developers. These were used during the subsequent development and support
efforts. This insures that in-flight application changes continued to function as
documented. This allowed us to leverage the cost of testing software and improved
the software delivery. 

 *  Implemented and maintained standard Quality Assurance processes, build
standards and Quality Assurance metrics that consistently passed or exceeded
local, divisional and corporate audits. 

 *  Managed the QA team (6 direct reports) that ensured quality delivery of
several key product initiatives including moving and testing Application Solution
Processes (ASP) applications from Dallas location to a Wisconsin location. 

 *  Established efficient and effective Quality Assurance projects including
participation of all project team members, focusing on automation testing models.
These models resulted in preparing testing processes to insure that testing is
automated, accurate and repeatable. The efforts were essential components during
the SDLC process. 

 *  Developed application software testing curricula, built Quality Assurance
testing lab and facilitated the VECTORsgi company implementation of HP/Mercury
Quality Assurance tool sets. These carried forward in the Metavante corporate
organization. Team Budgeting / Cost Management over time methodically built and
maintained a Quality Assurance environment including staff software (over
$600,000 investment) and testing lab (over 25 machines  *  servers and
workstations).

 *  As a member of the QA team participate during planning & testing of various
projects (early planning during specification development and design reviews).
Member of the approval team for a number of development projects. Perform as a QA
reviewer in a    final    testing or    sounding board    capacity. 

 *  Encouraged the QA team, as HP/Mercury software SMEs, to educate divisional
and corporate QA teams.

 *  Create business cases for multiple QA hardware requirement environments. For
example: Build a business case to acquire a 64 bit VM machines to test VISTA
Editions. Create and prepare cost analyses for purchase of additional HP/Mercury
software licenses. 

 *  Manage and assist during implementation of software upgrades to Mercury
products  *  review possible upgrades with the QA Team. Most recent upgrade was
to Quality Center   9.2 from TestDirector  .

 *  Prepared a pilot project to use BPT (Business Process Testing) approach to
QA. BPT is a HP/Mercury product. HP Business Process Testing is a comprehensive,
role-based test design solution that overcomes the challenges and bridges the
quality gap between our subject-matter experts and quality engineers. As BPT is
Web-based, the plan is to utilize the subject matter experts to build data, drive
and execute manual and automated tests without any programming knowledge. This
allows QA Engineers to work on the more technical aspects of QA automation. 

 *  Managed the Product Documentation Team efforts including plans, processes
and procedures. This included identifying documentation inventories and preparing
a web based methodology for all staff to access existing documentation. This
replaced manual requests for access to the documentation. 

 *  Participate on management teams to facilitate collaboration, brainstorming,
problem solving and collaborate on product road maps. Contribute to business
strategies & product positioning with emphasis on the most active projects

 *  Participated on local, divisional and corporate Quality Assurance technical
committees. A member of a corporate team, involved in defining and organizing   
needed    QA standards and best practices for the divisional environment. Wrote,
edited, championed and implemented policies and guidelines.

The Business Continuity planning background: 
1. Software Quality Assurance  *  maintain a test and preparedness mentality.
2. Business Continuity Planner for an office of data processing individuals (180
staff members). 
3. Maintain a preparedness status which insures operational resilience is
maintained at a high level.
 
 *  Performed the task of Business Continuity Planner for the Metavante Image
Solutions (MIS) - Addison Solution Center. Facilitated the business continuity
plans which included on-going divisional and corporate governance. 
 
 *  As a Business Continuity Planner and Coordinator I managed a project to
complete significant amendments to the local business continuity plans during
2008. This utilized approximately 20 % of my time and
