EXPERIENCE:
12/2007 11/2008
Industry: Web Hosting
Linux Admin
Host Gator Houston, Texas
● I am responsible for troubleshooting client issues with the web sites.
● My troubleshooting involves Apache 1 and 2 htaccess directives, PHP
script issues, MySQL 5.0.51a queried and connectivity, server firewall issues
with script connectivity (using iptables and CSF), and some ASP (ChiliSoft ASP)
troubleshooting. All of the Linux servers are running CentOS versions 4 and 5
and cPanel 11 with WHM 11. Some of the scripts include WordPress, vBulletin,
PHPList, SMF, WHM Autopilot, phpBB3, and the ones listed for Fantastico on
netenburg.org. I would troubleshoot customer installed scripts, but the ones
like the aforementioned ones were the most used/installed.
● Aside from troubleshooting scripts, I would have to ensure the web
hosting services were functional and to fix daemon issues. Amongst the many
services that ran under Linux, the most used were named, Exim, courier-IMAP,
Apache, Ruby, cPanel, MySQL, and ChiliSoft ASP.
● I was responsible for monitoring server health for shared, reseller, and
dedicated boxes. I had to ssh into high load boxes and troubleshoot the cause.
I monitored the current processes while cat/grepping daemon logs to track down
issues. Common issues that would cause high server load were DDoS, nonoptimized
SQL databases with nonoptimized queries, sloppy php/perl/javascript code,
attempted security breaches, high bandwidth sites, and various other issues that
I had to fix.

● I am responsible for Quality Control of the different Carbon Blacks
from various corporate owned manufacturing plants. I test the carbon blacks sent
from the plants, to the R&D lab, on a weekly basis, and report the testing
results to the various plant managers. Also, since the company sells carbon black
to various tire manufacturers, I am responsible for mixing the different carbon
blacks with various chemicals and rubbers, testing the cured and uncured
products, and reporting the results back to the vendor requesting the work. Some
of the various tests include stress and strain, viscosity, scorch, rebound
information, din abrasion, specific gravity of rubbers, the pHs of the carbon
blacks, and various other tests.
● I am working in the nanotechnology department as a hardware integration
specialist that is responsible for process engineering via LabView and G-code
while all aspects of the operations are monitored. The main project that I am
working on is a patented process for the creation of single-wall and multi-wall
nanotubes and industrial nanodiamonds for use in various commercial
applications.
● Integrated and computerized several steps, required for the rubber lab
work order process, and computerized them. Including cost-calculations, work
order requests, recipe calculations, data reporting, and various other
information needed for the process.
● Created an intranet site for a document/picture repository (for the lab)
that helped tie the research and development department with the nanotechnology
department and the accounting department to assist in eliminating multiple steps
in the process, saving man hours and improving accuracy. The intranet site is
also used for several tools, including multiple calculations to convert rubber
lab test results into other ASTM standard test reporting methods.
● I am also responsible for updating and maintaining certain procedures at
the lab with more technologically advanced solutions.
