personnel, expenditure for personnel, profit margins, calculation of tax etc. for
various items of civil engineering.
B, Preparing Detailed Estimates
A building consists of various items.
It is meant for working out the quantities of various building items that are
used for preparing the estimates.
It is used for preparing comparative statements, material accounting etc.
C. Preparing Bills and Making Payment to Contractors
The contractor quotes different rates for different items.
It takes a particular item and the corresponding rate from the rate file and
calculates the amount payable to the contractor.
Project relating to Civil Engineering Applications using AS/400
Tools used: RPG/400, CL/40***- SQL/400 and COBOL/400
Period: From Nov 2001 to July 2002
Modules: It consists of following Modules
1. Rate Analysis
2. Detailed Estimates
3. Comparative Statement
4. Bills for Making Payments to the contractor
5. Escalation Bills
6. Material Accounting
7. Final Analysis
Module 1 Rate Analysis
It consists of two parts
A. Cost of Material
B. Expenditure for Labour
It is used for calculating rate per unit for different items. Whenever the
market value of the material changes it is incorporated and a new rate is arrived
at. Similarly whenever the rate of labour changes, it is also incorporated and a
new rate is worked out. These rates are used for calculating the amount of the
tender.
Module 2 Detailed Estimate
A building consists of various items. For preparing tenders we have to work out
the quantities of all the items. This module is used for calculating the detailed
estimate of residential buildings, these quantities and the rates arrived from
the above module are used for calculating the total tender value.
Module 3 Comparative Statement
For a work many contractors apply and the work is awarded to the contractor who
has quoted the lowest value. This module is used for computing the total value of
all the contractors and then to find out the contractor who has quoted thee
lowest amount.
Module 4 Bills for Making Payment
In this the bill number is generated automatically.
A contractor quotes different rates for different items of work. This is used
for calculating the total work done (volume) by the contractor and for
calculating the total amount to be paid to the contractor.
Module 5 Escalation Bills
The indices on the date on which the tender is opened is taken as the base
indices for that particular work. Whenever the indices change, the contractor is
entitled to get escalation amount for the value of work done in that period. This
module is used for calculating the escalation amount to be paid to the
contractor.
Module 6 Material Accounting
Some materials are issued by the Department. This module is used for recording
the total issue of materials and total consumption of materials.
Module 7 Final Analysis
During the execution of work,, we may increase the quantities of some items.
Because of this the tender structure may vary sometimes. This module is used for
checking that the tender structure is not altered even after completing the
execution of work.
