The robotic tools developed by the CARobots team mimic the steps that a human
user would carry out in performing tasks on remote computer systems (normally CSS
or the Control-D systems). A limited amount of intelligence can be built into the
tool to enable data validation; correlation between different data sources,
catering for system errors, etc. However, robotic tools can only automate those
tasks where a well-defined, mechanical process can be produced to carry out the
task. In the majority of tools, the input data is generated from an Easytrieve
program, by screen-scraping information from existing CSS transactions (queue
scanning) or through generating an input file from data displayed on a Control-D
report.
