Production Worker
GAS LINE: Rotate (three workers) - Inspect gas filters coming out of ten-foot
oven, remove defective filters, put good filters on moving line going to packing.
Rework defective filters, use smaller three-foot oven to seal adhesive, send back
to inspection. Packing - use hand lift to transport empty pallets to work
station, spot check for filters for defects before boxing, seal boxes using
packing machine, arrange/place boxes on pallets, transport pallets using hand
lift to waiting area for fork lift drivers, ready for shipment. Production varied
from 25,000 to 35,000 each nignt (Oil Line's production was 50,000).
AIR PLANT: Rotate (cross train) - One of two workers lift (every ten seconds)
13-pound aluminum casings containing large cone-shaped air filters from moving
line, place/operate "spin" tray to add/settle polymer to base of filter, put
containers with filters back on line for completion. Production was approximately
720 filters for each worker in two split hours. Packaging (ready for retail
shelves) - one worker take filters off wide moving line, inspect for defects, put
in washing machine tub-like "spin" to add protective oils, etc.; place filters
back on line for individual packaging. Two to eight workers (depending on amount
of required filters) take filters from moving line, package in commercial boxes,
and put back on line for pack out. One worker pick up 8 to 16 individually
packaged filter at one time and place inside medium/large carboard box, send box
through packing machine and on to be palletized. Production quota for each type
of filters (cone-shaped, retangular, etc. for automobiles, tractor-trailers,
