Work Experience Highlights
Technology Associates
Performed analysis, design and prototyping for the application of Latent
Semantic Indexing (LSI) technology to special problems of knowledge discovery and
data management in a mission critical system.
Supported, in a leading role, the development of various software systems used
for knowledge management, knowledge discovery and tool/data integration.
Developed and put into production an enterprise retrieval service to support
retrieval and transformation of both structured and unstructured data from
mission data repositories.
Key participant in an initiative to bring into operation an agency-level
services-oriented architecture (SOA) to support mission applications. Performed
analysis of various information service interdependencies. Developed standards
for service design and specification. Developed concepts for new information
services.
Technical lead for development of analytic tool integration framework supporting
a key agency research and analysis environment. Designed the framework using
service oriented architecture (SOA) concepts and implemented as a tool proxy
server utilizing J2EE (EJB and Servlet) and web services technology (SOAP/WSDL).
Integrated different varieties of geo-spatial and information extraction tools
into the analytical environment.
Developed automated query expression conversion tool to support conversion
between Retrievalware and Oracletext boolean search syntax using a common
intermediate expression tree model. The extensible design supports the addition
of new input and output expression languages. Developed plan and supporting tools
for migrating user's saved queries from one search engine to another.
Practical Imagineering Inc
Led effort for formalizing the XML-based collection and analysis meta-data
standard and its XML schema for the technical SIGINT community. Performed
analysis of wide range of SIGINT related file formats and modified schema to
support them. Led the implementation of multi-platform software for parsing,
interpreting and generating XML file descriptors as well as XML-driven binary
data conversion. Designed API (C++, C, Java), and directed team in the
implementation. Worked within the community to support integration of new
metadata standard into applications and infrastructure.
Performed maintenance and documentation of different software packages used for
technical signal analysis and scientific data visualization. Developed graphical
laboratory integration/automation software for controlling of equipment and
signal path in an ELINT laboratory. Developed a graphical raster display tool for
parameterizing multi-path signals in pre-detected data.
Served as company interim IT infrastructure manager, directing and implementing
improvements to security, connectivity and in-house information services hosted
on Linux computers.
Science Applications International Corp (SAIC)
Served as the project manager and lead engineer for the Defense Systems
Messaging System (DMS) modeling, simulation and analysis project. Designed,
implemented and applied OPNET-based simulation models for the analysis of the DMS
X.400-based message handling system and X.500-based directory services
architecture. Performed maintenance of model code to meet evolving analysis
requirements. Conducted studies and analysis on DMS directory service
configuration /performance trade-offs and addressed performance problems
specifically by simulation, testing, experimentation, and analysis of operational
data. Developed tools for extracting performance metrics from operational logs.
Participated in community working groups to support problem solving. As project
manager, performed staffing, tracked expenditures, performed progress reporting,
and task planning, and developed proposals for task modifications and follow-on
work.
Served as a key engineer in a study for Rome Labs, developing an integrated
communications architecture focusing on Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)
communications over SHF Demand Assigned Multiple Access (DAMA) SATCOM systems and
wireless systems. Compiled networking and information system standards and
developed interconnection profiles useful for developing the integrated
architecture. Conducted protocol analysis of interconnection scenarios addressing
service interconnection requirements. Developed modules for simulation using
OPNET for use in the analysis.
Participated in an R&D project to apply the SNMP protocol to the management and
control of DAMA satellite communication networks. Developed and exercised a
proof-of-concept system including custom SNMP agent and manager software
applications. Addressed and examined DAMA-SNMP management agent implementation
and operational issues.
Served as a network engineer for a program tasked with solving connectivity
problems (capacity, availability and responsiveness) affecting the dissemination
of secondary imagery. Supported analysis and design of infrastructure
improvements for military organizations. Supported installation and testing of
network equipment (ATM switches, routers) to support the objective.
Served as a key engineer in the development of the weather information network
simulation model for the Air Force. Designed, implemented and tested components
within an OPNET model used to analyze the mainframe-based communication front end
processor of the Automated Weather Network.
LICA Systems, Inc.
Served as principal engineer for an Army tactical communications project.
Developed the specifications and architecture for a prototype adaptive bandwidth
inverse multiplexer. Directed and monitored a subcontractor in the development of
the prototype model. Designed and prototyped a multiplexer to integrate data and
voice over a tactical 16 kbps digital subscriber line.
Supported an R&D project for the Army, providing communications engineering
support for the integration and testing of a distributed acoustic sensor network
used in a multiple-target tracking system. Configured a packet radio network
(SURAP) to support remote sensor data collection. Also developed a communication
network based on commercial packet radio controllers (TNC/AX.25) and using
military field wire as a transmission medium. Developed communication software to
support the sending of sensor data from remote sites to a central processing
facility.
