Not for Profit Vocational Habilitation/Employment Services for persons with
severe intellectual disabilities
Overview: Fulfilled 16 years progressively responsible management positions with
what started as a small commercial laundry, packaging and galley food services
operation (3700sf facility) with 100 disabled employees in 1990, and has since
grown to a $5.5 million organization with a new production facility (37,000sf), a
43,000 sf home office, and over 400 employees. Advanced into an executive
capacity starting in 2004, functioning as essentially second in charge of all
production, business solicitation and general administration functions for the
organization. Specific positions, responsibilities and achievements include:
Assistant Director (2/05-11/09)
* Oversaw all facets of operations to include federal contracts, all production
departments, the fiscal administration/control department, human resources,
transportation, route services, fleet and equipment maintenance, and individual
services.
* Work closely with the Executive Director to develop new clients/ donors,
expand customer/donor base, effectively engineer the physical services area and
optimize work and training opportunities for people with disabilities.
* Engage with Board of Directors, Executive Director and Development Director to
implement programs to build community awareness and garner financial and physical
support to serve individuals with no funding or transportation resources.
* Solicited, bid, negotiated and secured several major laundry contracts with
regional military and commercial hospital and clinical operations to include:
Seymour Johnson AFB, Camp Lejeune, Oceana Naval Air Station, Naval Operations
Base Norfolk, Dam Neck Annex, Northwest Annex, Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Bertie
Hospital, etc.
* Expanded service offerings to include small parts assembly and packaging, and
USN galley food services (except cooking) to organizations like Cox
Communications, ARS Manufacturing, and federal government etc. Oversee
performance against approximately 20 contracts in place ranging from $300K to $1
million.
* Direct a blended staff of 70 non-disabled personnel and 400 disabled line and
production associates.
* Advanced in personal skill development in the administration of government
contracts and grant writing. Serve as resident expert in both disciplines. Edited
and submitted several grant application packages that secured millions in funding
for CSS.
* Serve as lead executive in the absence of the Executive Director.
Operations Manager (7/04-2/05)
* Promoted after a short period to take a more senior management role in
response to rapidly growing bookings, contracts, and production demands. Oversaw
all corporate operations and federal contracts. Planned, prepared and
administered expenditures against annual budgets, and handled all aspects of
contract procurement and administration
* Proactive in Human Rights Advocacy, facilitating and providing miscellaneous
training programs germane to any of 30 distinct services provided by the
organization. Trained and channeled numerous disabled workers that have become
