Responsibilities include leading development teams servicing
software contracts with major clients such as Jeppesen Aviation
(a subsidiary of Boeing), and Dodge Motorsports, creating
deliverables for milestones for each part of the software
development life cycle (functional specifications, design
documents, and training materials), assisting in product
definition workshops to define and uncover client requirements,
and designing and implementing solutions across all logical and
physical tiers (Oracle database schema, data access layer,
middle-tier objects, and presentation layer). Non-consulting
activities have included creating a database-driven content
management system for CDS retail products and acting as an
internal search engine optimization (SEO) consultant for
LoveWashingtonWine.com, a CDS subsidiary.

Senior Software Engineer, Development Lead, & System Architect
Responsibilities included designing major architectural
components of Who’s Calling’s telecommunications software
infrastructure. Architect and lead developer of a high
performance web application that serves over one million
VoiceXML pages per day. Created design, specification,
and API documents as well as unit test plans; led code reviews;
worked with Network and Switch Operations teams to develop a
fully load balanced and high performance web farm for serving
VoiceXML and middle-tier services; provided training to other
developers; and made presentations and demos to the products
team and upper management.
* Primary designer and implementer of a web service-based
VoiceXML-generation system that automated call flow creation.
* Primary designer and implementer of a high performance real-
time data collection system that provides call data records
within seconds of the end a call.
* Primary designer and implementer of high performance load
balancing system for IVR call handling.
* Collaborated on the design and implementation of a MSMQ-based
system that funnels call data from multiple telephone switches
and IVR platforms to a single collection point where post-
processing can occur
* Created Windows service framework with configurable
functionality that is the core of almost every new project at
Who’s Calling.
Assisted in the evaluation of speech analytics engines for
possible product implications, including generating data based
on the content of call recordings.
2001-2002 Instant Service, Inc. Seattle, WA
Senior Java Developer
Created a pluggable Java servlet and XSL-based reporting engine
for Instant Service’s web site. Included SQL optimizations of
queries as well as connection management changes to prevent to
prevent brown outs on the company’s Oracle 8i database.
2000-2001 Microsoft, Homestore.com, etc. Seattle, WA
Independent Contractor
Clients included Rest-Awhile Fruit (RAF), Microsoft and
Homestore.com. Responsibilities at RAF included designing and
implementing a custom e-commerce and content management
solution comprised of Enterprise Java Beans, Java servlets, and
Java Server Pages. Duties at Microsoft included
documenting new APIs and class hierarchies for upcoming Windows
releases, writing sample code and tutorials for MSDN, and
developing XML tools for internal use. The Homestore contract
involved integrating SQL Server databases with the web-based
tools of their subscription web site, eREALTOR.com, as well as
writing middleware and client-side COM objects
to interface with desktop software packages.
1997-2000 PUD #1 of Douglas County East Wenatchee, WA
Senior Software Engineer
Duties included formulating the district’s entire software
development plan, managing staff developers and consultants,
architecting all major systems and selecting tools and
environments. Spearheaded the effort to migrate the PUD’s
integrated purchasing, inventory, and accounts payable
accounting system from a legacy 16-bit database product to Java
and Microsoft SQL Server. Other activities included helping
design and develop Windows NT-based control and data
acquisition software (SCADA) for the distribution of
electricity within the district; creating automatic generation
control software for the Wells Dam Hydroelectric Project;
assisting with a major upgrade to the Mid-Columbia Hourly
Coordination multi-plant control software; implementing high-
speed real-time databases (Industrial SQL Server) as well as
standard SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0 databases; and designing and
developing custom decision-support, data visualization, and
work-flow software.

Responsibilities included editing and publishing technical
journals for Windows, Macintosh and Apple IIgs computer
programmers and software developers (8/16 and Inside Basic );
designing and developing computer software for the Macintosh
and Windows operating systems in Pascal, C, 680XX assembly
language, FutureBASIC, and Visual Basic; developing marketing
strategies and materials; managing and directing office and
editorial staff; analyzing cash flow; negotiating agreements
with various publishers and developers; and designing and
implementing the Ariel Publishing World Wide Web site.
Subcontracted with Battelle Laboratories from 1992-1996 for the
development of the Ternary Waste Envelope Assessment Tool
(TWEAT). This tool assists in the analysis and disposal of
weapons-grade radioactive waste.
